I'm sorry, that a bomb blew up your house today, and that you lost your little brother.
I'm sorry that you had to run through the cold, almost naked, not knowing where you were headed or if you would get there alive.
I'm sorry that your momma got lost in the crowd, and when you called and called for her, you did not find her.
The sky filled with fire, that must have been a scary thing.
A man with a beard, you met him once, remember? He took your little brother away, to teach him how to use a gun. You never saw him again. But you knew it was the right thing, because the bearded man said that something called "America" is bad, and your brother would be a brave soldier, and would punish that bad thing someday.
That man with the beard is safe tonight, walking under the ground in safe tunnels built just for him. He can't see the fire in the sky, he can't hear the people scream, he doesn't see the children die. That man will smile tonight, because he thinks he is smarter than the rest of the world.
The bearded man promised your people many things. And it sounded so wonderful. So why now is it so scary out there in the dark, in the cold, with no clothes on your back or shoes on your feet, no one to tell you it will be ok by morning? The fire falls from the sky and you cry, there's nothing left to do but lie there and wait until its over.
Somewhere, thousands of miles away, children just like you are asleep in their warm beds, thankful for the turkey dinner they ate today, and the mashed potatoes. Thankful that they dont have to see the fire. And there IS someone to tell them that everything will be ok... a man on tv in a nice suit and tie, holding a cloth with stars and stripes, says not to be frightened, that "America" (there's that words again) will be strong, and will survive.
America sounds so nice... why does the bearded man want to get rid of it? What can be so bad about a place like that? A dream place?
But the child will never know. He huddles close to a crying stranger and watches the fireworks in the sky... and that's the last thing he sees, this Thanksgiving.
~~~~~~~~~~ If you haven't already, thank God you're alive today.~~~~~~
Find one person you can count on forever, one person you can love forever, and one person you can be with forever... and if you're lucky, it will all be the same person.
"Live for the memories."
