Laser eye treatment

First off... I have a whole ton of information to share if anyone has any questions, feel free to just ask me..

------------------

So... I just got back this weekend from Windsor, CA... from Casino Windsor and the real reason I went... LASIK MD clinic. I found out i'm eligible to get it done so the date stands. Jan 6th, I go in for the surgery.

------------------

This is from a package they gave me

There are basically 3 options:

LASIK: This is your general LASIK which is a form of outpatient corneal surgery in which a surgeon uses a specialized and precise flap-making instrument, called a microkeratome, to create a thin flap of corneal tissue. This flap is raised and laid back while still attached to the cornea. The surgeon then uses a state-of-the-art excimer laser to remove a predetermined amount of corneal tissue from the exposed bed of the cornea. The amount of tissue to be removed is calculated based on the preoperative determination of the power of your eye; these measurements are usually in agreement with recent prescriptions for your glasses and/or contact lenses. The flap is replaced and within minutes natural forces hold the flap down on the cornea. Usually, within a few hours, the surface epithelium of the cornea begins to grow over the cut edge of the flap to seal it into position. LASIK can be used to correct nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), and astigmatism.

----------------

Zyoptix LASIK: About 2 years new... a custom wavefront LASIK with Bausch & Lomb's newest technology. It has the ability to remove less corneal tissue (15%-25% less), and it preserves corneal tissue for later enhancements if needed. The less corneal tissue removed, the better.

They recommend this Zyoptix (if you qualify) for people with

*high prescriptions where there is a benefit in saving corneal tissue
*thinner corneas where there is a benefit in saving corneal tissue
*larger pupils
*people who desire the most recent advances in laser technology

They told me this one was probably the one the surgeon would recommend to me because they said i have large pupils ...no i wasn't on drugs ;)

---------------

And finally...

---------------

PRK: This is a form of outpatient corneal surgery in which a surgeon removes the front surface of the cornea called the epithelium, and then reshapes the corneal bed with the laser in the same way as LASIK. This technique is usually used for people whose cornea may be toothin to allow for the creation of the corneal flap required for LASIK. The procedure is used to corect nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia) and astigmatism.

I also wanted to note that my surgeon Dr. Baines has performed over 20,000 LASIK procedures. And to note the dangers as taken from 20,000 consecutive cases among ALL DOCTORS:

*Decentered flap: 0/20,000
*Cornea perforation: 0/20,000
*Inflammation with decrease in BCVA: 3/20,000 (all cases 20/25 BCVA post-op)
*Infection: 1/20,000 (20/25 BCVA post-op)
*Significant halos or glare (not previously there) 2/20,000

Laser complications
*Laser decentrations: 0/20,000
*Significant halos or glare (not previously there) 2/20,000
