Lack of CEVs During MXE/DXM/etc

Hey everyone,

So when I first discovered DXM and hallucinogens in general about 3.5 years ago I got CRAZY CEV's when I tripped. 220mg of DXM would send me to another planet. That said, at the time when I first experimented I was on Prozac (which I know is bad - serotonin risks), but the low doses I guess fended off any serious complications.

About two years ago I had a really bad trip on 2c-b (more like a bad panic attack) and since then it's like I can't get the visuals or CEV's anymore from drug experiences. This could potentially be because of lower doses, or lack of the prozac, or something else, but I'm not sure.

Honestly, it feels like this (if this makes any sense): when I used to "see" CEVs, it was like I saw outlines of things or faint hints at objects and I'd have to activate my brain to think and form them into coherent images, eventually this process would become self sustaining and I'd be off into another world. Now, the past year or two I've suffered from severe depression and anxiety to the point where...it almost feels like "too much effort" to try and "see" these visuals. It also feels like maybe a general sense of uneasiness about using the drug, possible habit forming consequences, or risks distracts me from seeing them.

Does this make any sense? How can I bring these visuals back? (FYI I've done some pretty heroic MDMA doses - I think I may have damaged my serotonin system). Is this just a sign that if I'm so nervous about doing high doses of drugs or getting hooked (had problems with Alcohol/Amphetamines/Benzos etc), that maybe I should just lay the fuck off?

Are your panic attacks and nervousness like kind of just a general building feeling of mental and physical pressure as you're starting to try to trip or use a drug? Because if so then it may have been the MDMA. That's a known symptom of frequent/too much serotonin release. If that's the case you should just take a long break to recover.

Well the first time it happened I thought it was just like a drug interaction between DXM and wellbutrin (which I was on at the time). I suddenly felt like I was absolutely burning hot and got somewhat disoriented (to the point where I rushed and jumped in the shower with my clothes on to cool off, funny in retrospect). The 2c-b trip was far worse as I had taken a large dose, and yeah it hit in the same manner, a feeling of intense heat, pounding heartbeat, very very physical feeling in nature. I felt it again later when we took LSD about 15-30 min after dropping - everyone else said it was all in my head but you know, if it was all in my head I think I would've panicked as soon as the drug was in my mouth, not about 20-30 min in when we were just chatting and it hadn't really begun to kick in yet.

Thanks for your reply that's very interesting, I suspected it had something to do with taking too many rolls...stupid me.

Yeah, that sounds about right. Like I said, just give yourself some time to recover and avoid serotonergic drugs (that would include DXM and SSRIs), and anything that gives you anxiety. MDMA damage doesn't last forever.

Or you mightt nto get these effects anymore. I was 14 when I first took dxm but shortly after I found out that opioids suit me better. Anyway like you described it, it sent me to another planet (well, you could say so.... I reallly needed to dissociate from reality, then ketamine came and other pcp derivatives being much more worth than dxm.

I remember taking dxm a few years ago. Im really skinny, I weight 55kg on average and Im 178cm tall. Ive always been skinny since I started doing drugs. And at 14 150mg of dxm was enough for me for 2+ plateau. Not a joke!!! Years later I ate one whole pack (= 450mg dxm hbr inside) and there were no cevs like beautiful landscapes and it felt even much more dirty. It loses its magic, I figured out.

Yeah, that's true to too, DXM builds a permanent tolerance and becomes less interesting with age. Still goes for other drugs, though.

Permanent tolerance? Sounds like brain damage to me, that's disconcerting. Meh. If there's a "non damaging" mechanism that could cause this I'm all ears.

I guess I just have to lay off drugs in general for a while. I've ruined so many for myself, damn near ruined MXE too (by taking too much). Having an addictive personality sucks I guess...seems like all the other kids get to go and take their drugs when they want but as soon as I enter the fray I overdo it, without fail (or I think I'm overdoing it, and then don't enjoy it).

I feel like stan in the recent south park episode where everything starts seeming shitty. :/ Maybe the cure for me is just to be less of an impulsive/self-control lacking pessimist o_O

Nah, NMDA receptors just work a bit differently than most other receptors so once you build tolerance to a dissociative it's pretty hard to take it off, and DXM is so much longer lasting and works on a wider range of receptors than like, well, every other dissociative, so once the magic's gone, it's pretty much gone.

I've never got any strong OEV's/CEV's with MXE, even with doses up to 120 mg. What I do notice is a certain glow, especially around light objects, like lamps and candles. When going over 80 mg my vision becomes somewhat "jellylike", when I move it looks like i move through silicone. But I've never considered it an especially visual compound. I love it, but I have to take extreme doses to actually have visuals. Having trouble focusing my eyes (seeing everyting as doule) or difficulties estimating distances are not visuals for me. Visually not much happens below 60 mg for me.

Take a break for a year or two, I know that might sound impossible to some people, I've sure been there with DXM. I stopped taking DXM (maybe once a year) for two years before I got MXE and I'm very glad I did. Also, cannabis is a must, and adding any psychedelic makes it a breathtaking experience.

Firstly, I definitely don't have a damaged brain. Secondly, I can use dissociatives like ketamine just fine getting normal effects, and these aren't what DXM causes by the way, arylcyclohexylamines and dextromethorphan are different in feeling. I would rather vote for something what happens with drugs that really affect sigma receptors. You get bored over time, e.g. cocaine (the reason people continue to use is another thing). Dextromethorphan itself isn't that much of an NMDA antagonist, it's dextrorphan that is more dissociative when these 2 are compared (I remember taking some dextrorphan I got from racemorphan separation and getting levorphanol).
