Can L-arginine be used to increase dopamine in humans when a lack of dopamine is present?. Here is an article. http://cat.inist.fr/?aModele=afficheN&cpsidt=16257606

Don't know to much as of now, wanna see what other people have to say about it. I know there is another protein/amino acid that has the same effect but I can't remember the name 8o.

L-arginine

L-tyrosine is a precursor to L-DOPA which is a precursor to dopamine. I don't think L-arginine has anything to do with dopamine synthesis.

If you want to increase your dopamine levels you can probably get good results with Mucuna Pruriens, there is a thread on it here somewhere.

There are more articles about it increasing dopamine though. Did you look at the link? If you google it you might be able to find more info.

It states that L-arginine will increase dopamine re-uptake in the rats Nucleus Accumbens, which will decrease the amount of dopamine in said part of brain.

OP I am actually interested in the notion of dopamine reuptake enhancement for other reasons, but let me tell you that I supplement daily with arginine alpha-keto glutarate (AAKG)

and the substance is fantastic for muscle pumps and for wood (it's a nitric oxide releaser and thus a vasodilator). 3 to 5 grams p.o. b.i.d. on an empty stomach. Can't speak to any perceived psychoactivity.

hey ADD, theoretically lets say one took an active dose of a dopamine reuptake enhancer. Would this maybe effect a tianeptine-type mood boost through a mechanism as inscrutable as tianeptine's?

when a lack of dopamine is present?.

also OP you may get some fantastic results from consuming whey protein with a good amino acid profile. Lookit: I discontinued Adderall a couple months ago after being on 60 mg a day for years and pretty much have had constant depression, anhedonia and cognitive sloth. Torpor is a good way to illustrate it. Now then when I supplement with tyrosine I get no effect, but when I take a whey shake with a balanced AA profile I am suddenly logged-in to reality in ways comparable to speed (but alas without the euphoria).

just a suggestion

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citicoline

"Studies suggest that CDP-choline supplements increase dopamine receptor densities,[1] and suggest that CDP-choline supplementation can ameliorate memory impairment caused by environmental conditions.[2] Preliminary research has found that citicoline supplements help improve focus and mental energy and may possibly be useful in the treatment of attention deficit disorder.[3][4] Citicoline has also been shown to elevate ACTH independent of CRH levels and to amplify the release of other HPA axis hormones such as LH, FSH, GH and TSH in response to hypothalamic releasing factors.[5] These effects on HPA hormone levels may be beneficial for some individuals but, may have undesirable effects in those with medical conditions featuring ACTH or cortisol hypersecretion including, but not limited to, PCOS, type II diabetes and major depressive disorder.[6][7]"

could help, when I take ~200mg on the comedown of stimulants or the day after it certainly feels like it somehow makes me feel much better(in what feels like a dopamine boost) and no other choline supplements don't have this effect at all for me. Also I remember reading on here that piracetam boosts dopamine a bit.
