I think that it's a question still without answer: why some people get strong empathogenic effects from Kratom?
I usually got this lovely effect before I started taking Paroxetine, then I lost it. Mitragynine is classified as an 5-HT2A antagonist, and there are lots of alkaloids that culd act at adrenergic receptors but doesn't affect serotonin by themselves. Cuold it be a downstream mechanism?

The very nature of the brain in itself allows for there to be differences in perception of intoxication when using any substance.

One could argue that both nature and nurture would contribute to this state.

Other alkaloids in the yohimbine family are, it would not surprise me to see mitragynine had some weak affinity for 5ht receptors.

Yohimbine is a partial agonist at 5ht1a and antagonist at most other receptors. So maybe kratom alkaloids are 5ht1a agonists? That may explain some of the unique effects.

Either way, opioids are known to make people feel euphoric, especially when paired with stimulants (mitragynine is both). Serotonin may not be involved in a major way at all.

With opiate receptors blocked kratom still produces a sort of intoxication that resembles cannabis in some ways, the way you're kind of sitting back in your head, kind of disconnected, the way vision lags a bit. In my experience, anyway.

When it kicks in, there's an undeniable opiate-ness, the feeling of sickness melts away, and while I find it incredibly useful, it doesn't fill my desire- I still want to rail oxy and dope, but most of the time it helps tremendously

What strain of Kratom are you talking about? I have noticed that I get that way with Bali-Indo Kratom. I think the empathogenic qualities of Kratom would largely be based on the specific strains and the less active components.

Thanks ebola, I didn't know it. Are selective 5-HT1A agonist psychedelic?

I usually get that feeling with Thai, for me Indo feels weak. I have to try Bali yet.
