Kratom has turned on Me, what happened!??

Hi guys, I'm new to the site but have received tons of great advice here and questions answered, but this one has me stumped and I can't find anything online to explain it so thought I would reach out to ya'll for some help.

I have been taking Kratom for about 6 months, Bali strain. I've been loving it and worked like a charm for pain relief, energy, motivation, mood enhancement, etc. My typical dose is from 15-20 grams about 3 times a week, sometimes more and then sometimes taking a week break to reset tolerance. All was going great until a week ago when suddenly my body is rejecting it and causing nausea and anxiety instead of the usual euphoria and great feelings.

I'm baffled by this and I can't think of anything in his normal routine that could account for this. Best results were always eat 1-2 hours before dosing and then once kicked in I could eat like a pig and not alter any effects.

Now, when I take it, the fuzzy ephoria kicks in for about 30 minutes and slowly turns to anxiety and jitters. I am not getting any of that lasting energetic feeling anymore and what's worse is that if I eats food within 2-3 hours after dosing then he gets very sick, nausous, dizzy, can't focus and usually eventually pukes it up, very unpleasant.

Has anyone had this experience before?? How can the effects and the bodies reaction just turn on a dime like that? If this continues then I guess I can't use it anymore. I may try refraining for a month or so and then start over, see what happens.

Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated! thanks folks!

Interesting! You are the only other person I've heard have this problem. I had the same thing happen to me about 3 or 4 years into using. It would start out euphoric for about 20 minutes and then It turned into this disgusting feeling of physical anxiety, jitters, an uncomfortable burning sensation, amongs other very unpleasant feelings. This feeling was so unpleasant that I ended up deciding thag the withdrawal was less uncomfortable than the effects produced and I ended up quitting for a while. I've asked if anyone had any similar reactions several times in one of the old kratom threads... no dice. You and me seem to be an unlucky duo :(

Although I'm unsure if this is unrelated I feel it's necessary to share the variables in my situation. For me these effects somewhat coincided with the time that I was abusing etizolam... though at the time this all began I wasn't even physically dependent on the etizolam which makes me think it's unrelated. It wasn't until a month or so after being off the kratom that I went on an etizolam binge (in addition to the 2-3x a week I used for maybe 5 months) and then ended up having to deal with 3 months of withdrawal.

After 4 months, 3 of those spent going through withdrawal I took a dose of kratom and noticed the unpleasant reaction lessened. Eventually I resumed daily use and to this day I have no more issues. I can't say if it was the break that solved my problem or the discontinuation of etizolam. The fact that I was using etizolam for at least a good 3 months before I started having this reaction, in addition to not even being physically dependent makes me think these things were unrelated... especially if you're going through the same thing and have no history of benzo abuse.

What I can tell you is that this feeling does not seem to go away without a break, for me it was a long break. Because I was physically dependent I endured this reaction for months hoping it would go away and I wouldn't have to kick but it never did, perhaps even got worse. It got to the point where minimal doses used to keep me out of withdrawal induced this reaction. This is when I realized I would rather deal with the week or two of withdrawal and kicked it without a taper. Like you described a switch flippes at the drop of a dime.

It's good to keep everything in moderation. 15-20 grams at once is all too much for me, personally. And I rarely use everyday. I try to aim no more than 1-3 times per week. Having said that, the only time I remember getting nauseated from kratom was during the first 2 or 3 times I used it, and found that 1. I took it on an empty stomach, and 2. I took what would be a large amount for me now... About 2 slightly mounded tablespoons.

If you use it moderately in moderate amounts, consume it in a way that sits well in your stomach (not in big clumps of dry bitter powder, but well saturated by saliva or drink), and are sure that it's not a bad psychological reaction, then I would 1. Make sure your kratom isn't contaminated or from a dirty source, or 2. Give it a break, and let your body become a stranger to the kratom alkaloids for a period of time. Shoot for at least a month of healthy living, and try again with a different leaf, or smaller amount..

thanks for the feedback guys. Yea, I think im just gonna try to kick it for a month or so and see what happens. I guess my body just needs a reboot.

Hey Placticity, just wanted to do a follow up post on my original because I found the culprit. 5-HTP pills is why kratom turned on me. I have been off it for about a week now and now the kratom is working as normal. It seems mixing kratom with any other drug that elevates serotonin production can be risky, including SSRI's. I researched a bit and found other threads that describe a similar reaction. I've used kratom with xanax too, been on it for years and there was no reaction, just improved, so in my experience those are a safe combo, in moderation. Hope this helps any one else running into this problem.
