Thought this might get a better answer here than BDD but feel free to move this; basically I have some kratom that I would like to use but am currently on the antibiotic erythromycin.
Looking up possible interactions, I read that erythromycin shouldn't be taken with other drugs metabolised by CYP3A4 because I guess this leads to inhibition of the metabolisation of both drugs(?) and "adverse effects". In addition it shouldn't be taken with a load of different anti-hypertensive drugs because the combination can lead to a prolonged QT interval and possibly "sudden cardiac death".
Kratom contains ajmalicine, an antihypertensive that I think is metabolised by CYP2D6 primarily but I may affect CYP3A4 as well?
I'd basically like to know how much ajmalicine or any other alkaloids present in kratom might have the same effects as more common prescription antihypertensives when combined with erythromycin and whether or not I should try the combo.
Thanks.
