Kicked out of Rehab for (false?) positive on opiates urine drug screen

I have struggled with drug and alcohol use for many years, and entered a rehab in Queensland about 3 1/2 months ago. Have been clean all that time but was notified about a week ago that I returned a positive to opiates on an immunoassay urine drug screen.

The initial (and unreliable) immunoassay test was followed with a Gas Chromotography/Mass Spectometry test, which I had to pay $190 for.

QML have stated two very different stories, one that the GC/MS returned a negative reading, and the other that I had a positive to an unknown opioid substance.

All this, despite the fact that I take 50mg naltrexone every day, so an opiate would obviously not work, except in very high and dangerous doses.

The rehab has accused me of taking pholcodine (why would anyone bother), or dextromethorphan (I hate the shit, plus it wouldn't mix well with the 200mg sertraline (Zoloft) I take daily).

It's a case of guilty until proven innocent here, and I need some proof. Would anyone be able to provide some helpful advice?

seems a little pointless if you took the GC/MS test and they didn't accept the results. I would put it to them that they should pay the cost of the GC/MS or accept what its stating.

also if you entered a private rehab i'm sure there is a contract you signed with the rules i.e. don't take drugs but more importantly there is usually section in contracts as to what the parties should do in the event of a dispute. is there any impartial person who can discuss the situation with?

I'd put it to the rehab that if you were taking drugs that you wouldn't have been stupid enough to waste $190 on a GC/MS test that to my knowledge cannot be tricked.

like what's the point in you doing the test if its going to show up your opiate use.

also you should put it to the rehab that the onus on them to prove that you have taken drugs and that a single false positive does not in your view, and your lawyers view, meet your requirement.

Indicate that if they persist that you'll be seeking a refund on the monies paid due to breach of contract on their part.

naltrexone is an opiod, I wouldn't be surprised if they've just picked up that...doctors can be incredibly dumb. I've even heard of a fellow bluelighter, prescribed valium by the very doctor who drug tested him, being accused of taking oxezapam and temazepam, when these are the metabolites of valium...

this is fucking ridiculous mate. As someone whose known you for many years - And know your struggle is for real and how long you've been on the naltrexone - 3 months is a usual stint anyway in rehab isn't it? I can't see what good you're going to get out of it further man. just stick to the naltrexone as it's obviously going to do you more good than harm in terms of opiate usage - considering what we used to get up to back in the day with the oxys (teeheehee).

I wish you all the best mate in your efforts to straighten out to be a good dad for lil leesy. I look forward to seeing you again my friend, our time apart is too long mate.

Stay strong, and stick it to the man ;)

Yeah that was drug_mentor... I remember I read that post while still tripping on acid, thought it was one of the funniest things I'd ever read. :D

GABAlover: That is not good. If the GC/MS was negative, surely they should accept that?

Pholcodine should be non-abusable, and definitely explain to them that DXM would be dangerous if you took it with your zoloft. I'm not really sure what else you can do here, except push to speak to someone higher up in the organization perhaps and have them hear your case.

8) That's fucking hilarious man. Truly a scary level of ignorance. The laugh cheered me up heaps. :)

Thanks for your support everyone. =D

MrIbis, we have hung around a lot man, I consider you my best friend. Good advice too, staying on the naltrexone. I will see you soon bro. Can you send me your phone number on a Facebook message?

Lol yeh u sounded like u were high. Whered that dxm stuff come fm

Doctors are stupid spoonfed bunch of retards. They havent the slightest idea of anything. All thei shit is based of medical research done by scientists not doctors. As a scientist myself, I hate going to see a doctor because they try to tell me shit I already know in more detail than them

One of my professors, a immunologist, said he knows more about when hes sick than the doctor does, but he cant stand it because he cant write scripts to treat his shit

Whoops forgot to say. They prolly fkd up the immunoassay, like didnt do a wash step properley.

i think you have a strong case here, i would speak to a lawyer to get your money back. especially when the lab retested it themselves.
