my doctor is weening me off my meds that i need to be able to funtion and it also says in his records that i shoot up pills so i'm hoping to find a doctor that doesn't ask for records and prescribes the dose i need

... .. why??

.... . how much time has he given you before he stops your scripts??

are you sure it says "you shoot your pills up" that might work against your doctor if you had been getting abusable medications from him for several years and was not the soul or recent reason for him giving you the boot.

making medication transitions from one doctor to the next with in the same area can be a sticky situation or simply just take some time if your previous doctor did not retire or pass on. depending on what your mediations are also are a big decider in the ez of new prescriptions being written. this can be a pain in the ass for pm if something has gone down or you broke your contract while under the care of one pm doctor outside of previous history that was disclosed. as this will be included in your record and is outside of substance abuse which in my dealings and understandings is more protected and sealed depending on the doctor/setting. if your gp was dealing with substance abuse along with other conditions this can get tricky. best to obtain your records yourself in looking for a new doctor, they still might ask for a release to be signed tho. depends on the doctor along with conditions and meds.

if you have straight forward records that show you have tested and shown reasons for your medications you should be able to get help from a new doctor in the same area.. . in that it was time for a fresh start.

ughhhh.. . sorry to hear you are dealing with this! try to get your records organized and gathered, looking things over seeing whats, what.

Like I said flowers you have the option to remove any record information pertaining to "drug abuse" and HIV and some other things.. just call the dr you just left and have them send/fax you a forum for medical records request... and you will see what Im talking about..

You can request records that do not include and information in regards to substance abuse.. it is usually one of the boxes to be checked when you fill out the release.. when you fill this form out ask for a copy of the release.. obtain the records and then bring them over yourself.. but read the records through to make sure they dont have this information.. if they do dont alter them as this is illegal.. just go back and request they please do what you asked. So i hope this will help flowers.. do it a week or two early as by law they have a little window before they are required to produce them.. but for them to do this correctly it will require them looking though for substance stuff by hand and to tell you the truth I would make sure you look though them all to see if they did it A and if they missed anything B.

Have you seen your records directly where it states that you are shooting up? If you've never seen it yourself, there's the possibility that your doc only told you that.

I'm not sure about the US, but here we have the option to contest anything put on our medical records and the burden of proof falls on the doctor. Regardless of what happens, no matter which doctor you see, they'll want to see your records at one point or another.

I hate to say this as it's deceptive and I almost feel bad telling you this but as a CPP I also understand that when you're in awful pain and your meds aren't cutting it and the DEA is breathing down every pmp's neck so you can't get the proper dosages you need. Shooting up aside is irrelevant except as far as the abuse factor is concerned. I can tell you right now I've been with my pmp for 5 years he's a great guy we do the UA's and etc etc all the time and my pain is under control. But if he said "hey sorry J the dea won't allow me to prescribe this med in this quantity anymore" and my pain was no longer under control I really hate to say it but I could see myself doing anything within my power to get pain relief (sad to say that includes shooting pills for higher BA if I needed to) because when you're in pain that's so debilitating that you can't get out of bed and live a needle with heroin doesn't seem like the greater of two evils. If I got cut off (and I don't shoot or anything) but if I did I would either start buying heroin or I would cut my nuts off (I have chronic orchalgia and before I was on any medication I was at the ER all the time because the docs all though I had torsion). But the pain on a 1 - 10 is a 12 without meds. I can't do anything but lay in the fetal position on the floor because I'm in so much pain it's like my body just doesn't seem to want to respond... and I can definitely see myself shooting dope before I ever live like that again. now don't get me wrong... I NEVER want to go near needles. I hate needles. Specifically needles that are meant for IV use. Something sits very wrong with me about the idea that there is an open portal from the outside world via the needle hole directly into my bloodstream. It's odd though. Being on opiates so long has wrecked my testosterone and I now have to administer 1.5 inch long IM needles and push test cypionate which is oily and makes it a very time consuming process to push through the syringe since it's a 25 gauge... remember, I HATE needles.

But like I said, when you're in pain that's so bad that not only are you going through withdrawal (which IMO is a walk in the park on a beautiful sunday afternoon compared to pain that feels like every day for the past 5 years you're getting kicked over and over and over and over again with steel toed boots in the nuts) The pain still was worse than the withdrawal by a billion. Your nuts are the single most important thing in your anatomy as far as nature is concerned because without them you can't pass your genes on (and to be completely frank we exist to pass on our genes just like every other living thing in the world... but we have spare time too) so when something's wrong the nerves go crazy and the nerves in your nuts transmit more substance P (responsible for pressure/heat/other types of pain etc) at a higher intensity than the rest of your body. I've been told by doctors that without meds my pain would be about 15x worse than a woman would was giving birth 24/7 for the rest of her life with no analgesics. so yeah. Anyways enough with the personal info. My point is if I didn't have any medication I would pick 1 of 3 options. 1. buy heroin and shoot it to get rid of the fucking horrible awful life destroying pain. 2. cut my balls off hoping that if they're gone the pain will be to, but I'm young and I want kids... still if it's kids vs. pain that's a 12/10 every fucking day every fucking hour every fucking minute every fucking second for the rest of my life which is what it seems like... then I hate to say I would say forget the kids. 3. Finally, after getting sick of trying to buy drugs on the street with constantly variable potency and spending money since we all know healthcare doesn't cover heroin unless you live in Amsterdam or Switzerland (who give addicts pure heroin though they call it diamorphine over there instead of methadone... and low and behold the people shooting up are finally getting consistent doses and when they want to stop using heroin they can taper... and most people who use heroin long term hate that they do it once the euphoria's gone) I would just end it. Life isn't meant to be lived in a fetal position... that's not a life.

Anyways back to the OP. When you look for a new doctor tell your current doctor who has kicked you out you want a copy of all your medical records. If he asks why tell him you don't have to explain shit to him and it's your right through HIPPA to have access to your documents/notes that he's taken. If he disagree's you have a big lawsuit on your hands that you'll kill him in. If he 'offers' to send your records to the doctor you intend to go visit tell him to fuck himself hand you the papers now or you'll have the government on his ass within a week and have him shut down for failure to adhere to HIPPA which is a big deal when dealing with the specific patient to whom that HIPPA information relates to. Once he gives you all his files, go through them one page at a time. Look to see if he mentions anything about drug abuse/shooting/etc. If he does, discard the page... your healthcare info doesn't have page numbers on it anyways since it's usually but not always doctors notes that have been dictated. Also when you go see your new pain doc give him your file he'll ask who your previous doctor was and you can him if you want but you also can explicitly tell him you do not under any circumstances want them to have contact with one another... remember this is your private healthcare info and unless you signed a waiver stating that the new doc could call the old doc he can't without permission. If he asks why just tell him it's because you had a huge political disagreement with him and you don't want his now tainted opinion of your political beliefs to affect your care.

Done and done.

Good luck man, I know having chronic pain sucks... believe me when I say that. But please please please try to must the will and self determination to not use needles because some docs will check for track marks especially if you go into the office wearing a huge sweater when it's hot out lol. I've never IV'd opiates (unless you count hospital ER visits.. but I don't like the feeling... to me it feels like liquid cement starts running up my arm from the injection site as soon as they push the morphine and dilaudid and then it makes its way up my chest to my heart and then BOOM as soon as my heart pumps I can feel that cement like feeling shoot everywhere in my body... no doubt it's just instant relaxation but when it occurs that quickly it does not feel relaxing.. to me at least. But try to switch from IVing to snorting/plugging. that'll give you the fastest onset of action and will feel like a few steps down from IVing but not nearly as much as swallowing your meds. When you've gotten used to that switch to PO. You shouldn't have problems with this because after you've snorted/plugged the drug just wait 10 minutes and you'll be feeling it and you won't have a desire to IV (unless your addicted to putting a needle in your arm and no so much what your putting in it.

Anyways best of luck.

They are your rights but you have to choose to use them.. also flowers please examine the reasons for your descion to continue to take these medications and make sure it is the correct choice for you.. im not saying it isn't just saying please give it a good examination.

shit which meds? the dexedrine? cause that fucking sucks - if i even miss a dose i cannot even function enough to write a sentence.

sorry to hear - go to a new doc if possible. If my script got pulled i'd be wrecked. I have a massive medical record of drug use but no IV and i get scripted hefty amounts of dexedrine/day. The rest i just order myself, fuck the system.

was it a psychiatrist who cut you off or a family physician? IME psychiatrists will NEVER blame the medication for anything and always see it as the cure, even the conservative ones. Just don't tell them shit, play dumb and hope ur records dont bite you in the ass. I have 3 benzo w/d and 2 opie w/ds on my file!

You have a few options to prove what meds you were prescribed without involving your previous doctor.

The first is to go to the pharmacy you use and have your records from the last year (or however long they can go back) printed out. This will prove that you had these meds prescribed for that long.

The other option is more up to your doctor and will depend on your state, but if you have a prescription monitoring program in your state the doctor can just look you up. When I went to my suboxone doctor he would type me into the program each time to make sure I wasn't getting anything else from any other doctors. I looked at the screen and it showed the dates that I had prior prescriptions filled, the name of the doctor prescribing them, and the name and dosage of the drugs.
