Im 21 years old and have been dealing with an addicton to intravenous drugs. from age 16-18 was steadily injecting ketamine which then shifted to an opiate addiciton for about two more years. I went on methadone for one year and managed to get off the final mlgs with some help from suboxone and was clean for about a year. Recently ( the past few months) I have been back on k worse than ever and cant seem to get a grip. Looking for some support groups or helpful advice . My life is completely fucked and i need some assistance. Any tips? I live in toronto ontario

I sympathize with you. A good number of my old "friends" had SEVERE IV ketamine habits, and I've seen how out of control it can get.

I think you'll get better responses over in The Dark Side

Good luck.

There seems to be a correlation between opiate addicts and ketamine addicts, probably due to the 'escapist' properties of both drugs. While ketamine might seem like a better idea at first, really you are just trading the same addiction out with another substance. I think you need to really ask yourself what it is you are trying to run from. Your drug use and overall addictive tendencies are a product of a deeper emotional problem or possible a lack of spiritual practice.

For example, The part of your mind that may be weak is the area that deals with comfort, survival, and security. A problem can occur here for various reasons including a poor early childhood, or perhaps a childhood that was 'too comfortable'. Either way, it can create a negative reinforcement when it comes to feeling comfortable and secure in this world, and that could be why you turn to escapist drugs.

Have you ever considered going to self help groups or rehab? The actual quitting of the ketamine is going to have to be a decision, and then you have to examine ways to feel good without it. It's really not an easy process, but i can suggest something that really helped me, as i too was addicted to heroin and often used IV Ketamine when i couldn't find any, just to get out of the body i was in.

"The book, which examines many aspects of social mind control and mental imprinting, provides mind exercises at the end of every chapter, with the goal of giving the reader more control over how one's mind works. The book, which has found many readers among followers of alternative culture, also discusses the effect of certain psychoactive substances and how these affect the brain, tantric breathing techniques, and other methods and holistic approaches to expanding consciousness."

The book is called Prometheus Rising, and you can probably download it for free. Look, in this world, we often need ways to feel like we can mathematically calculate solutions, that is westernized thinking. This book offers a very understandable approach to getting to know your own tendencies better. I strongly suggest it, because as someone who responded negatively to the 12 step approach, i can say this book amongst other texts helped me more than any person ever could. You have to help yourself, and this is one way to do it.

I sincerely wish you the best, and honestly hope you at least give it a try.

Awesome advice Crashing.

I think you need to really ask yourself what it is you are trying to run from. Your drug use and overall addictive tendencies are a product of a deeper emotional problem or possible a lack of spiritual practice.

I was going to say something to that effect. I never found IV ketamine remotely euphoric, it was just cold, empty and emotionless. But it removes you so far from reality that I can see how it would be appealing to someone looking for that escape from reality. I think anyone abusively seeking that escape has to have underlying issues, as has been the case with other people I've known with IV ketamine addictions. The same can be said for all addicitions, but I think it especially applies here.

I have tried na and can see it works for some people but found it unconvincing. I find it hard ti talk about. No one i know does it or would be very thrilled at the thought of such a young woman (myself) in such a disoriented state. I spend a lot of time in my room alone and feel guilty and embarrassed about it. I find that so few people are aware of this type of addiction and find it hard to reach out. I need to express my thoughts about THIS specific method of use and drug of choice considering it is much different then any other high. I myself feel helpless most days and wish there was some type of ketamine specific group i could relate to. Anyway thanks for all the advice. It was helpful :)

PD -> TDS

I feel you man, of the drugs I've done I found dissociatives were one of the most addictive and yet dissociative addiction is really down-played. You've made the right choice asking for help and the people in TDS will be glad to give you a helping hand! :D

I can't really offer much advice myself since I never quite found myself addicted to Ketamine despite my love for it, and for me stopping was just a matter of forcing myself not to buy a bag one time and to do something else in the mean time, usually some other hobby, as I found that after you actually got rid of it there weren't that many cravings, and it was more that while you're going through a period on Ketamine it's all you can think about. It sounds like you might be well past that stage though so maybe someone a bit further travelled down the roads of dissociative addiction can give better advice.

If you ever need a friendly ear to listen to your troubles, send a PM my way. Always happy to help :)

Best of luck! <3
