Opioids Keeping opiate tolerance to a minimum

Reading these kind of threads is always upsetting: trust me, new members, new users and you guys lurking anonymously - the odds of you being able to use opiates and not develop an addiction of some description are infinitesimally small. Telling yourself you won't become an addict is as arrogant as it gets, and you won't realise that until it's too late. I, and millions of others, said exactly the same thing. "Oh, it's only 90mg of codeine, once a fortnight, I'm fine", which becomes, "It's only 150mg of codeine every week or so, but it's only codeine, I won't become an addict", which leads to the phrase that haunts me every single day, "I've got this under control". The second you utter those words it is over, you have psychologically lied to yourself, as soon as you argue control with yourself: you have lost all of it.

No matter how long you've been at it, how little you take, how infrequently you take them, or the old chestnut; "I don't have the money/frequent access for it to become an addiction". You will find the cash and you will find a way to get your gear, no matter what.

If you're not already an addict, back the fuck away now. You are not special, you are not invincible, you don't have some kind of super human physiology that allows you to avoid addiction - we all thought we did.

Yes we are all different true that. Opiates are the great equalizer, though. If you use enough your brain and body will start craving on a subconscious level. You will be in too deep. Baffled by how you got there and how to get out.

I started out taking a pill for severe cramps. That turned into taking 10-20 mgs on the weekends. That turned into taking 45-60mg everyday for the past 7 months. I am a functional addict, I work full time and have a very successful Etsy business on the side which I put hours into as a second full time job. I thought I would never be a daily user but here I am. It makes me able too work harder, and that extra money earned goes to pills. I wish I could only use on the weekends, but now there's always an excuse to use more, to be creative, to be in a good mood for my bf's birthday coming up, to go to the gym. I'm going to try to not use during the work week, I am prescribed Ativan which would make me comfortable but I don't want to be dependent on that either.

opiates are my favorite, I don't like to drink. I didn't realize how easy it was to get sucked in.

He said that you will get addicted, he never specified if you woulf be a functional addict or a total junkie. Either way, it is not what you want for yourself. I am a functional opiate addict, and I very much regret getting hooked on opiates.

The best course of action is to stop using opiates entirely. Of course you probably won't listen. For some reason, you think that it won't happen to you; but you are wrong. You are going to get burned if you keep playing with fire

If this sounds harsh its only because as functional addicts we know how harsh of a reality opiate addiction truly is. I always liken it to this metaphor: we got hit by a train and are laying there watching recreational users standing on the track and trying to get their attention to move out of the way so they don't get hit too!! Its harsh because we hope u don't go do the same path.
But realistically if u are going to use.. .use no more than once a week. Honestly.
Good luck and stay safe:\

I feel like your questions were not answered... Just alot of "you're doomed" answers.

Just maintain control of yourself. If you start to notice your tolerance climbing, or you losing control of your money, or becoming angry when you can't medicate - then plan your taper plan &knock it the fuck off?

Does anybody else feel this way? Or am I crazy? ;)

Old discussion I know but totally agree with this guy, once a week is a good balance IMO.. easy to keep track of and if you are doing on weekends/days off it can prevent disruption in ur daily life. Keep track of ur usage and the effects it has on you, ur mood and ur life. If you notice it affecting anything then have a break. If you notice a bad trend forming while you use, just stop and go cold turkey.
Balance the postives with the negatives of the drug. If it isn't OVERALL working in ur favour then stop, I feel like people don't accurately take into consideration the negatives of drugs and that is the thing to focus on when using. It's sad that people don't take the proper care to monitor the effects of stuff in it's entirety.

It depends on what you are using the opiate for. Are you chasing a high or using it for pain. I'm prescribed 75 5mg roxys a month and never take more than 2.5 to 3 a day. Sure I don't get the high feeling anymore but it helps my pain which is what I need. If your doing something to get high be very careful because you'll keep doing more to obtain that some level of high.

Hey guys. I've been a member here for a few years and have always done my share of browsing and reading but never really posted. I had a question about bupe and oxy but didnt want to start a new thread. I have been abusing opiates on and off for about two years now. I got clean over the summer but then relapsed as soon as I got back to school in late august because the availability of opiates at my college is always so good and the stress of my studies always gets to me. Basically ive been on 160+mgs of oxy a day and decided this week it was time to keep myself in check and take a break, plus i just cannot sustain it financially. I've been through the withdrawal cold turkey a few times before and it was some of the hardest experiences of my life.

My question is. Can i detox and get through the majority of the oxy withdrawal by using low doses of suboxone for about a week? I realize there is no way to completely get around withdrawal but will the suboxone allow me to avoid the terrible withdrawal from oxy if i use it for a week? I guess another question would be: will i start to withdrawal after i stop using the suboxone for a week? Basically will the suboxone just postpone my withdrawal?

Thanks!
