Is there anything i can do/take to keep my blood pressure in some kind of check while taking drugs, specifically, shrooms, DXM, and DMT.

Marijuana is a mild vasodilator, and would probably be one whose combined effects with the drugs you mentioned is well documented.

Marijuana, with certain people, might exacerbate anxiety symptoms while on psychedelics, which could lead of course to skyrocketing blood pressure. It really depends on the person, but I'd be extremely careful.

I don't have high bp but I had something of a scare with DXM and would like to reduce my risk as much as possible

It always depends on personality, and your own chemistry, of course. If marijuana tends to make you anxious or paranoid, that's obviously not something you want to introduce into your trip. If marijuana generally calms you down and makes you want to be lazy and play video games, on the other hand... ;)

A lot of this gets exacerbated by your mindset when you take your hallucinogen of choice also. It's generally not hard to maintain a degree of control over yourself while tripping with a bit of experience. The first time or three might be a bit stressful, but once you know what to expect it's not so bad.

If I really felt like I needed something to moderate my BP, then-- based solely on my past experiences and knowledge of how I respond to things-- marijuana is as far as I'd go.

Well if it's purely anxiety based i guess a benzo would calm you down and lower your blood pressure. Unfortunately it will also reduce the effect's of the trip. I know from personal experience that benzos kind of kill off the shroom high.

It might also be dangerous taking a benzo with dxm because dxm can cause respiratory depression as well cant it?

Atenolol (or other beta blockers) works great for regulating blood pressure increases from meth, MDMA etc and should be safe to combine with DMT or psilocin. Not sure if combining it with DXM would be sensible though.

haha i thought this was going to be about medicating bipolar

anyway diuretics and beta blockers are good suggestions

what exactly was this blood pressure scare?

After a night of DXM I had (and still have somewhat) different pupil sizes. So, in case theres some damage, I want to minimize the risk.

Sorry if this is not advanced, but I didn't want to start another thread...

I have BP in the 135-150 / 88-98 area on small doses of stimulants (which isn't that much higher than my sober BP, though). I gathered that this is already considered hypertension. But how dangerous is it exactly to have moderately increased blood pressure once in a while? Does it pose a significantly increased risk of cardiovascular problems?

Maybe this is a stupid question because there are many other variables which play a role here... Just wondering whether I should stop worrying or whether I am blatantly harming myself with my behaviour.

worrying about your blood pressue while on drugs leads to increased blood pressure. its best to not worry about it imho.

Very true :)

But it's not like I'm in panic or anything, I'm just wondering whether it is rational for me to continue taking stimulants occasionally (as I don't really have any problem with them apart from BP).

edit: OK, maybe I am worrying a bit too much ;)

BP elevation - How often is too often

I curious about this too. I'm using Concerta (sure I'd prefer another med, but it's better than its bad reputation often given on other Bluelight forums) 3-4 times/week, usually 72 to 144mg at a time. My BP rises moderately high - 160/95. Blood pressure fluctuates normally without a lot of medical concern; this is getting up there, however. Sure hate to stop using right now because I'm writing a dissertation, and without the stims. But don't like the prospect of a stroke or serious organ damage. Any MDs (or those that play them on TV) out there?

biofeedback is the best way for me to control my blood bressure, but I am sure a benzo or waiting for a better headspace and not stresssing about your blood pressure will help you out as well.

Slightly off topic but out of curiosity can anyone explain why after stimulant use I get very low blood pressure?

My blood pressure is low in general (120/70) and I would have thought that during periods where I regularly used stimulants I would have had an overall increase in blood pressure.

lucky bastard, I have such low bp that when I stand from sitting, I have to find something to lean on and rest before 15 seconds or else Ill pass out.

Ness - I don't really know why you would want a drug to lower blood pressure - how does it relate to the change in pupil size in any way? If you are suggesting that psychedelics can cause so much stress and anxiety that you are worried about your blood pressure I don't understand why you would be using them anyway. There are a range of blood pressure medications, but you should probably only use them under supervision and I doubt they would be easily obtainable without a prescription. If you are looking for a natural and easily obtainable product, garlic has been shown to cause a small but statistically significant decrease in blood pressure.

rnd.id - Hypertension treatment is generally not commenced unless your systolic blood pressure is measured at > 140 mmHg or your diastolic blood pressure is measured at > 90 mmHg on several occasions. If this is the case, you would probably be advised to make lifestyle changes before drug treatment was commenced, unless you have a number of risk factors present (like diabetes, family history, smoking, excessive alcohol intake, renal impairment blah blah blah).

And AlexxRed - I don't know why you get low blood pressure after stimulant use. Are you referring to immediately (like 30 minutes) after use or after a binge when you first stop? If it's after longer term use then it could simply be your body adjusting to the lack of stimulants (probably called rebound hypotension or something), but otherwise I'm not really sure.
