Kava with Pristiq and Blood Pressure Meds

Ok, just a quick one. My good friend just arrived after a trip to fiji, and managed to get in a few kg of pure kava powder... mmmm yum.

Now, I desperately want to try this for my insomnia issues... Will it have a bad effect due to the fact I am on Pristiq and Blood Pressure Meds (I know Kava reduces blood pressure though)...

Any feedback, ASAP would be awesome. Thank you for your help.
 
Which blood pressure medication are you taking?

I was on Zoloft when I tried Kava, didn't notice any adverse effects there. Seeing as Kava is most likely a GABA-ergic drug, it may be helpful to look up drug interactions between the blood pressure medication and a benzodiazepine; maybe diazepam for reference?

I will wager that it will be fine, but you may experience some postural hypotension.
 
Pharmacodynamically I don't think it's likely to be an issue (e.g. summative/opposing effects), but pharmacokinetically it could be... There's some evidence that kava may inhibit several metabolic enzymes (including CYP3A4 which I believe is the main enzyme that metabolises desvenlafaxine). I doubt anyone here could say for sure.
