The last 7 days I have been in Hawaii. While there my wife and I decided to hit up a authentic Hawaiian kava bar. The shop was recently opend and is located in the international market. <snip>.My wife and I entered the Kava bar. It was filled with Samoan rugs to sit on the floor while you enjoy your bowl of kava and the prices are very reasonable for Hawaii. The sounds of Hawaiian Samoan music fills the room. My wife and I started with 2 bowls of kava or as the locals call it awa. We immediately felt the effects within 15 minutes which was a big surprise. It lasted for a good 3 hours. The feeling is a very happy, content feeling with a numb mouth. You feel light headed and a bit wobbly. A hint of euphoria is there too. A very very smooth nice, social, relaxing feeling. By the third bowl that my wife and I had consumed, this time they added flavors to our kava. We had oranges sickle, and mint chocolate chip flavored. By the second bowl we were completely under the influence. We managed to get lost back to our hotel. This was the most fun I've ever had getting lost. I strongly recommend if you are visiting Hawaii, Waikiki to go try this. It is totally legal and a great experience, it is even legal to import to the states. This can also be orderd online but the key is to find fresh kava root. Otherwise it looses potency greatly. This report is written by a experienced kava drinker. <snip>

Forgot to add while there we also partook in kava brownies which were much efficient. Never tried them but they sure did hit strong. 5-6 hour duration.

If I were to ever stumble upon a Kava bar, I would certainly give it a try. I have tried Kava in forms of cut and sifted root, tinctures, and extracts. It never has much of an effect on me. I wonder if it is because I have abused benzodiazapines at several points in my life.

Groovy report. Sounds like fun.

Good description of the Kava experience, yes, well worth a go if you are in that part of the world. Don't worry about all the reports online about Kava being toxic to the liver - this is the result of greedy ('legitimate') vendors using the stalk and leaves of the plant. If you stick to preparations made from the root you'l be fine.

My own experience was in Fiji many years ago where I found myself as the guest of a group of young people in the capital Suva, who turned out to be transvestites and very, very friendly, intelligent, good people. My abiding memory is sitting in a circle surrounded by all these young Fijian men wearing brightly coloured dresses and lipstick, all sporting the traditional Fijian hairstyle - really, really BIG hair - HUGE! - and putting down bowl after bowl of Kava, with the traditional double handclap after each one. The effects were exactly as described above. I think I had too much because after about 30 minutes I lay down in the middle of the circle and fell asleep.

God I wish I was young again! %)

Jackie jones, I am a daily Xanax user prescribed for 3 different severe anxiety types. The benzo tolerance did not Make any difference in the kava potency. I would also like to add when walking back home from our kava session a nice Hawaiian native offers us some tree and we happily obliged. They have some out of this world MJ.

Hello i was just given a bottle of of Wow-Wee Maui's from Kava Bar & Grill and been reading all kinds of things, i've also asked my friend that brought me the bottle and she says to have a shot of it and that's all no more explantions all she said to let her know how Kava treats me so i'll try it tomorrow and post what happens.

For those of you who haven't gotten much of an effect from kava, different kinds vary greatly in potency.<snip> But I love kava, it gives me a better feeling than any benzo ever has and I like it better than alcohol, and it's obviously a much safer choice than both of those things.

I've tried Kava. Didn't really like the taste but I dug the effects.
