JWH vs. Marijuana, my experience

So about six months ago I lost my pot hook-up. It was a pretty big bummer since I had been a daily smoker for years. The main reason smoke is because it helps me sleep and it de-stresses me, so I started looking for alternative, "legal" highs that would fill the same role.

Which led me to JWH, of course. After reading many experiences with JWH-18, I decided to order a couple grams and give it a shot.

So here we go:

JWH-18 arrives by mail and I can't wait to fire it up, I've been dry for 6 months and I'm ready to get a nice high going.

I like to vaporize the JWH off of a piece of foil sucking up the vapor with a foil tube. I guess my first warning is a no-brainer: don't use plastic straws, they will melt!

Lots of advice about the dosage online, everyone says that you should get a scale and measure it out. Unfortunately, I didn't have a scale that was precise enough so I eyeballed out a minuscule dot, about half the size of a grain of rice.

So first hit, nothing. I had read that it takes a little while for it to hit you, and it isn't gradual at all. Half an hour later I'm still feeling baseline so I take another hit. This time it hits me almost immediately, the first dose finally sinks in.

The high is definitely different from any pot I've tried, but then again I've only smoked indica herb and I've heard that JWH is more similar to a highly sativa bud.

So perhaps that's why the high took me by surprise. I think the best way to describe the JWH-18 high is "intense." Granted, this probably had something to do with the dosage being eyeballed.

I was watching Heavy Metal, a total classic that I used to love to watch when I was smoking pot. JWH gave me a completely different reaction. I wouldn't describe it as pleasant, more of a head rush and wild emotional reactions to the music and happenings. It was difficult to control the high and it wasn't giving me that happy feeling that I usually got with pot.

So first impression was pretty meh, it was good but not in that happy, relaxing way that I like about pot.

I did get better at eyeballing out the dosages and I suspect my tolerance shot up so it became easier and easier to land at a fairly pleasant, if not still kind of intense, high.

When I ran out of JWH-18 I decided to try some of the other formulas out there. I had heard good things about JWH-73, supposed to be a more mellow high. So I went ahead and bought a little of everything: 18, 73, 81 and some 210.

Didn't take long to ship, I've been very impressed with the suppliers for JWH. Purchasing was simple and easy, no problems at all. The package came in and I tried the JWH-73 first. Sure enough, it is a more mellow high, but it also takes about twice as much to achieve the potency that I was accustomed to with 18.

I was pretty blazed and decided it would be a good idea to MIX all of them together and try the concoction. Unfortunately, this prevented me from tasting the other flavors of JWH individually, doh 8) . The mix was great though, the more different types you use the more the high fills out. A JWH-18 high is a little one-dimensional, but the mix hit me all over, head and body high. Good, but still not nearly as much euphoria and relaxation like with pot. Just a really clean, potent high lasting two or three hours tops.

I had many grams of the concoction and it lasted me a few months. It's a marvel how far this stuff goes for the price.

Some warnings though. It is very easy to overdose, at least at first. I definitely OD'd a few times when I was first starting out and my tolerance was pretty low. It is miserable. Your heart will pound like crazy, your head will ache and you will freak out. Very, very lame. It is also very easy to avoid by buying good scale and being smart about spacing out your hits. It takes about half an hour for it to hit (for me), know your limit and don't load up too much before you start to feel it.

Anyway, so my JWH ran out eventually and I decided to put it down because it just wasn't doing the things that I liked so much about pot. There isn't much of an uplifting euphoria, no relaxation, and it doesn't help me sleep that well. Not that it wasn't fun, just not really what I'm looking for.

A few weeks back I finally got a new hook up for pot. I had stopped using JWH about a month prior to that, so I figured my tolerance was probably pretty low again.

I got home, lit up and... to my surprise it took me QUITE a bit more pot than I was expecting to get a good high. A good 3 bowls or so, and the pot wasn't too shabby either. That was a pretty big bummer. So another warning, I think that JWH sends your THC tolerance through the roof.

I think my current weed is sativa and not indica, because it feels more like JWH. I'm hoping that's the case anyway. What I'm worried about - I did way too much JWH and did something to myself so that now I cannot get a euphoric high anymore. Has this happened to anyone else? Or do I just need to let my tolerance drop some more?

Anyhow, I hope this account helps some folks and I hope to hear you guys' opinions on the matter!

Hi temporal and welcome to Bluelight.

Very interesting post. In the future if you are looking to post a report on your experiences you should probably put it in the Trip Reports forum. If you are looking for a comparison of JWH and weed I bet Cannabis Discussion has a lot of interesting threads on it which you could chime in on. Don't worry about this threads now as the mods will decide what's best.

I've personally never tried JWH due to the negative side effects I've heard associated with it but I do use the 2c-x RCs so perhaps I'm a bit of a hypocrite. Anyways I've always had a source for the real stuff and never felt the need. I'm glad JWH has worked out alright for you in absence of weed.

edit:
whoops I didn't notice you did have a question at the end hehe. Umm regarding tolerance there hasn't been any formal studies done on how it effects tolerance. Most people I've heard find it contributes to it just as much as weed and perhaps more due to its more focused effect. Marijuana can be a fickle drug and it could be that your new experience of it is because you are associating it to JWH compounds in your mind. Who knows?

Ack, I dropped all my posts into Basic Drug Discussion. I hope this is okay - if not the mods will correct it, right?

amapola, how do you like the RC's? What's the difference between them and JWH? I thought about ordering some, but I could not find any good documentation/reports.

As far as the tolerance question goes, I have noticed over the past week or so that weed is gradually feeling less like JWH and more weed-like. I think you are right in that respect, it's possible that my mind is still making that association with the JWH compounds. I don't blame it... JWH is a much more powerful high.

RC = research chemical
Ah, well that makes sense.

But no, my JWH supplier also sells something called RCS-4 and RCS-8, so I thought that was what you were talking about. I'll have to look into the 2c-x RCs, or the other research chemicals. I'm sure there's something fun and interesting in there somewhere.

Yes RCS-4 and RCS-8 I'm pretty sure are other synthetic cannabinoids just not Huffman's.

PiHKAL and TiHKAL by Shulgin are a good intro to research chems and entactogens. Nowadays of course it goes way beyond them as well.

As a nervous pot smoker (I don't like too much or I get nervous- but I still love pot) The JWH didn't give me a "tolerance" so much as it acclimated me to being really really high. When you OD on JWH it is a bad experience, but pot will never get you to that level unless you really over do it- something like smoking a blunt to yourself of good hydro. So I think just experiencing that way over the top high from JWH makes pot seem more tame. I haven't noticed a lessening of the actual pot high.
