This site has been an incredible resource and comfort for me in the past, so I finally registered so that I could not only thank everyone who has posted their advice and experience, but to perhaps offer something of my own.

I began my foray into opiates about 6 years ago after a massively horrible back injury. After surgery- which was incredibly unsuccessful- the surgeon sent me to a pain doctor. Lots of treatment options and drugs followed, too soon my body was hooked on morphine and if I tried to get off of it, the pain and discomfort was unbearable. I had to leave my job in order to get proper rehab and treatment. Unfortunately, I found out later that the rehab director was a scammer and she ended up stealing about 10K from me. I did get sober though and for that I am greatful.
Now, want to be able to help (if I can) and would love advice on how to begin again.... Considering grad school..... Do I go back to my career? How do you start again?

This site was a tremendous help to me.... Many, many people look to it just to find stuff out.

Welcome, Boo Radley!

Glad that you find the website helpful. You may want to check out Education & Careers to see what they have to offer. You may find that forum helpful!

Thank you for the welcome....

Should tell you that I am an educator - teacher and administrator. Just don't know how to go back. Don't get me wrong - love the kids (middle and high school) but am just terrified to return. Wasn't exactly educator of the year when I was using and am still carrying around a lot of shame about it.... There is nothing worse than realizing you cheated some amazing students out of the best education you could provide. Well, at least for me there isn't....

Would be very interested how others deal with that shame. For many reasons, people don't want to believe that teachers and administrators fall to addiction as well.

Welcome Boo Radley! Perhaps the way forward to confronting your feelings of shame & moving on with your life as an educator start here at the BL community.

Educate through experience,- just on a different platform to a different audience.
