Just diagnosed with multiple severe back problems, general and medical advice wanted.

He sounds very unrealistic also. He's told me he's going to get me off of narcotics ASAP even though he explained I'm likely to have debilitating chronic pain the rest of my life, unless I opt for the invasive and elaborate surgery which I am currently not signing myself up for.

My level of functioning has been so low I can't fathom going 8 hours without some kind of pain relief, let alone be completely cut off. Fortunately I'm going for my first line of treatment Saturday, an epidural steroid, although I'm not expecting any miracles.
