Hi i need any advice, help, support to get off this stuff.i was on opiads. Got off them with methadone.wellnow its 10 years later. Im done.i want my life back. Any advice, support iwill welcome with oopen arms

One word: taper. Sanely you quit methadone at 1mg, not more. I don't know your dose but seriously consider a taper schedule with a physician (average is 5mg less each month).

Methadone is probably the worst opiate to come off do like buddy above me said and taper by 5 mgs each time. If you cold turkey methadone it's one of the few opiates that can cause seizures and kill you. I suggest meeting with your doctor and discussing a SLOW taper plan for you slow is the key word there you can't do it too quick youve been on a very powerful opiate even stronger than heroin for over a decade so the withdrawals ain't gonna be pretty and methadone w/D's last so much longer around 2-3 months before your back to having some energy and to get sleeping normally again whereas heroin a shorter acting opiate takes about a month with long term use of the drug.

Welcome to Bluelight

Please see the link the Other Drugs Directory - http://www.bluelight.org/vb/threads...read-check-here-and-read-rules-before-posting
Here, there should be a link to a methadone megathread. If you cannot find it please contact mr.scagnattie who is an excellent moderator for Other Drugs who would be willing to help you.

Please, also look at the sticky threads at the top of this sub-forum, new members introductions There is one called The Adoption Programme where current members befriend new members, in order to help them settle down into the site. If you feel that this would help you - please feel free to post a message on that thread, saying that you are interested in being "adopted."

I wish you all the very best as a Bluelight member,

Yea you find bupe more painful cause its drawn out more but some find bupe easier cause its not as intense as methadone. Everybody is different

You'll get used to it. What's going on is that you're actually smelling normally again since your sense of smell is severely numbed while on opiates for a long time. You start smelling your body again, your breath, other people, environments. Things you don't notice when addicted to opiates. So Since your sick in withdrawal all sweaty and whatnot you smell all those bad smells. Also once sober it seems to bring back the love of listening to music for lots of people because their senses arnt so dampened by opiates they experience the world sober again it can be nice once you make it past the withdrawals part.

Don't rush it mate. I had several failed attempts at coming off the done over 9 years but finally kicked it by tapering down to 20mg then spending two weeks in a detox. After leaving detox I moved in with family in a small town and focused on baby steps. After a month I could walk to the end of my street and back without a rest, it sucks the life out of you and its a long road but well worth it. 4 months later I was back at work and for the first time in a decade had my life back, the freedom of not being tied to the methadone program was actually a bit scary at first but its an amazing feeling not having live your life around dosing. 3 years on and ive had issues with meth and other things "still a fiend of sorts" but I can sit comfortably in a room full of people using opiates and not feel any desire to use. Slog it out mate, its worth it

Yeah thats what next. I didnt have the option of going to a detox place.took a leave of absence from my job and did it at home. I have to be careful as hell not to revert to my old tricks. Now that i can eat a pill and feel the effect.did it really take 4 months to feel normal?

Hi Evey, I'm just looking for the "sticky threads" that you mentioned in your post... and not sure where it is or what it means... would it be possible for you to explain this to me a little more so I can find out how to use this forum more easily ? Thanks so much for your help.
best wishes, Leonie

I want to come off Methadone - causes anxiety/irritation/agitation

Hi everyone, I've been on Methadone for about 4 years. I had an operation in 2009 and took Oxycontin for pain relief afterwards. Trouble was that I got addicted to the stuff and couldn't taper off it. My GP was useless and didn't offer any advice or help, so I entered the Alcohol and Detox Clinic in Canberra where I live, and was put on Methadone. Currently my doctor is telling me that I can't quit methadone, and not to bother trying. I reckon that's got to be hogwash ... Methadone is good for pain relief because i have lots of pain due to Rheumatoid Arthritis, however it also causes me to feel anxious, distressed and agitated... and as a result just cant function. I really need to get off this stuff, and wonder if anyone out there might have had a similar experience, or be able to offer me any advice etc. I've figured out that I need to taper off Methadone slowly, which doesn't sound impossible - although I know it will be hard to come off it completely. I also wonder which drugs might be useful for my arthritis pain - one's i can substitute in place of Methadone. Maybe I should be asking my GP such questions, except that I cannot for the life of me, find one that understands, or has any knowledge of such problems. That's why I'm hoping you guys here, might be able to help me out, even it it just offering an ear to listen to me whinging :-) I hope that I might also be of some use in offering support to anyone who needs it. Thanks for listening...
all the best, from Leonie in Canberra, Australia

If you look at the top of New Members Introductions there are a load of threads at the top with 'sticky' in front of them. Look for the one that says "The Adoption Programme." It's where Bluelighters befriend Greenlighters (new members) to help them settle into the site better. If you put a post on there saying that you are interested in being adopted then someone will befriend you n help you with whatever you need to know about the site.

Good day.
