First of all I have no psychedelic experience other than mdma and cannabis.

I have heard many things about the dose to take on your first true psychedelic experience from start small so you get a feel for it then work your way to higher doses to take a big dose your first time as you'll get more out of it. I think there's a quote somewhere about the first psychedelic experience possibly providing more for the user as he or she has fewer expectations and is possibly more open to whatever may happen and therefore a high dose for the first time is recommended.
I have heard that the first trip is generally positive for most people irregardless of the dose. I think this is a matter of opinion but I wanted to see what the majority of you guys thought.

Do you think it is better to start really small just to get a feel for the substance before trying a dose that would actually produce a psychedelic experience (i.e. test the waters), start with a normal sized dose that will definitely give you a psychedelic experience then work up to higher doses (i.e. wade in), or start with a high dose to experience the substance to its fullest before you have any experience and thus don't really expect specific effects as much (dive into the deep end)?

Jumping feet first into the deep end is a good way to quickly learn how to swim... either that or you drown.

Well the first trip isn't always positive and taking a really high dose without knowing your reactions to these things is kind of risky.

I agree that jumping into the deep end has it's advantages.

Actually that's how what I did; 5.4g of cubensis mushrooms in a tea. I dove in, but didn't know how to swim, I survived, but it was indeed highly traumatizing.

If you're willing to deal with whatever comes up, go for it. Just realize that I could be amazing and it could be not so amazing, it's a gamble but the worst that can happen is you having one really shitty night and be left a bit messed up for a bit. You'll likely work through it and come out fine either way.

Wading in would get you acquainted with progressively deeper levels of the experience and the risk of a trainwreck is decreased.

Either way works in the end. Just follow your intuition about which one you want to go for.

i'd recommend you don't just jump in with a high dose if you're planning on experimenting with rcs though. there is so much variance among people and dosage (ime) that i always start small.

you may get a lot out of it....

but for the love of god, have enough klonopin on hand to knock your ass out if you need to....

shit starts to get unpleasant, stick 3mg under your tounge and you will be out like a light in 20 minutes....

xanax in a similar dose might work, but i like klonopin because its a bit more sedative...

definitly do not jump in to the deep end by yourself.... i normally hate trip sitters but tripping with a friend gives you someone to talk to...

the best trip sitter in my mind is a few benzos.... bad trips are generally associated with anxiety, modern medicine has given us drugs that kill anxiety.... also known as benzos...

the problem with jumping into the deep end when you don't know how to swim....

But I also don't subscribe to the wade in thing, either....

I guess I suggest the middle path... jump in on the shallow side... so if things go bad, they are still manageable... plus, it's your first trip.... everything is more intense the first time... no need to make things unbearable.

IE: 2-3 hit of LSD for your first time seems right to me. 2-2.5g of shrooms... etc. (then again... I'm a lightweight for shrooms.. my first time with shrooms was 2.2g of some field shrooms and it was almost too much to bare at times..and I was a very experienced tripper by that point... just had never tried shrooms yet.

Good luck...

That's what I had in mind by wading in. Start with a low dose but a dose high enough to have full psychedelic effects.

So I guess no one seems to like the jump into the deep end. I have a friend who did 7gs of shrooms his first time (first time with psychedelics too i think) the only negative part of the trip was that he threw up which threw the trip into high gear as his blood rushed to his head and he got to the point where he could see everyone's third eye. He seemed to have enjoyed it overall but wouldn't recommend it either on account of the intensity of the experience.

it's up to you to decide, but I say go for a medium or high dose. You'll have a much more memorable first trip (good or bad, hopefully good), and you won't be saying "I think I feel it" the entire time.

My first trip was on 1/8 oz of mushrooms, and I wish I had taken more, but I still had a great trip (my friends who took 1/16 oz had a very light trip, and some of them were a bit disappointed).

oh, and also, my friend had his first psychedelic experience on smoked DMT (3 good sized hits). He had a great time, but he hasn't done DMT since, but he says he liked it, just that it was intense and not something he wants to do very often.

If you are a pretty stable person, don't have many issues in life, are happy, etc. and are not afraid of "letting go," then I say go for the deep end if that's what you want to do. If you did have a bad experience, you might not ever touch a psych again in your life, and that would be a shame.

DMT and really anything that can utterly destory your ego that quickly is kind of a different animal...

your letting go whether you want to or not....
