So im a 23 yr old highschool drop out..never held a job more then a week cause of partying and what not..now its time to GROW THE FUCK UP! But finding a job is the worst i dont have any experience and it seems impossible. Not that im stupid but who wants to hire someone with nothing on their application. So i wanted to hear from people who have been through the same shit and tell me how you got through it?!

1. Get your GED
2. Go to craigslist and search for all jobs in your area
3. Apply

If this is too complicated, skip step one.

Good luck buddy, I am looking too, except I have a BA and lots of experience.

I'm in a similar situation. I've got some college experience, but the only work experience I have is in a family business, so it's not really great for an application. The only thing to do is look for jobs on places like Craigslist, snagajob, etc. :/

I'm in the exact same spot dude, but i'm just a wee bit younger than you.

The ideas above are great, get a GED and all that...But, if you want to have some money coming in and are willing to do manual labor, go to a Labor Ready (basically a job for a day) and get there super early, like 6am. It sounds like it sucks, and sometimes it does, but the people you work for will almost always pay cash at the end of the day, and if you're good enough at the work, they might hire you for real.

same here - its tough to get a job with no real job history , you know? Any advice on how to go about getting a job when you've never really had one?? I would like to know, i'm in the same spot

I am also jobless at the moment and it sucks. I have been asking friends if they can help me get a job where they are working. I have also been looking in the newspaper and job sites online. I called an old boss to see if she was hiring but she said she wasn't. I plan on going apply at different places throughout the week.

I am a college student so I'm going to see if my college can help me with job placement. I have a good bit of experience but its all in retail and food service. Good luck man. I know how it is. I just quit my job on New Years over some nonsense and I feel like I made a mistake. I've been thinking about going talk to them to try to get my job back but I'm scared things would just be the same and I would just end up quitting again.

I find it ironic that I quit now that I've been sober for a month from methamphetamine but I was able to keep my job while I was on my last long run. I justified my quitting by telling myself that it was good for my sobriety. Lol.

You could try some of the things I mentioned like asking friends about jobs, looking online and in the paper, temp agencies, job fairs, and just going around and applying to different places.

Work in a Factory! I don't know why more people my age don't do it...
You could easily support a small pad on your own making about 450/week if you spend your money wisely and don't party too much. But you can still do A LOT of partying believe me.

Or what about Construction? Almost anyone can get hired there. Just bang a few boards together, pound some cement, etc. No pee test.

I feel for U finding a job today is much harder than it was when I was 23. Back then I would go where the jobs were (State unemployment office had that info), ended up working on a railroad track crew over the summer & saved up like $12,000 (prolly = $20,000 today); worked in a cannery in Utah and day-labor in Portland OR landed me a job in a railroad scrap-yard for a few months; picked apples in Washington. Lived in a car.

When I settled down I went to Community College to become a nurse but never finished.

I work in retail, but as a manager so it's not bad, and good benefits. We get 40-50 resumes in a week (pretty big company), and we don't have a lot of time, so a lot of the time, we will just call those that have lasted at macdonalds for 6 months. They train well, teach multi-tasking, teach you to work with cash, customer service and if you can last there, you have potential.
I know a lot of places do this, so if you can handle it, go to macdonalds, it is a pay cheque, and with flexible hours, you could get your GED, which is invaluable.

Are you joking? Do you realize how hard it is for even experienced unionized construction workers to find steady work right now?

After the housing bubble burst, construction started going downhill.

just lie on your application

write down that you've graduated with a 3.0 and that you worked at the same place since you were 17.

no one will check. Simple as that.

^How often do you lie on your application?

I didn't say it would be steady, probably 2 months out of the year at best, but I have a few friends in the roofing and framing business and they tell me they are always getting new laborers, and are always looking for more.
Maybe it's different in my town though. All I'm saying is it's a job you can get just to pay a few bills for a little bit.

very very very very often :)

In my personal expierence, if the job you are applying for pays less than 10 dollars an hour, no one will look into a damn thing that you write down. They're just lookin for someone with a pulse, nothing less, nothing more.

I've been working out of Labor Ready on and off for years!! It's really not that bad. Some jobs suck balls, and others can be pretty good!! I've even made a few good friends there!! I highly recommend it!!

Do not lie on an application about education and/or school and/or legal and/or citizenship/residency/visa history. If you get caught doing this, things will likely go straight downhill for you. Not to mention that there could be legal ramifications as a result of falsifying information. Do not do this!

For some people, the immediate cash is worth more than that risk.
