Hey there everyone. I am a 40's year young woman who has never done anything like this before, and I am looking forward to the opportunity to speak out a little, have been doing lots and lots of reading, and I want to thank everyone here for their honesty. I don't really have anyone to talk to about this stuff and im going through my own things and so is my 20 something daughter and that is incredibly painful. We are both ok, working functioning and kind of happy people, I probably worry about her more than anything else.

forgive a bit of a ramble but I need to spill.. I have been taking codeine for horrible, horrible stomach pain for over a year. normal nights for me begin at 3am with unbelievable forceful vomiting until I only have dry heaves. just vomiting from nowhere - I drink very little, maybe a couple of drinks before bed, but even without it the vomiting occurs. anyway, I went and have been seeing a gi doc who said I might have chrohns disease then said no he didn't see it. I had been diagnosed with steatorrohsis (sp? - fatty liver) two years ago and was so sick I lost the use of my legs, had repeated seizures, had ascites, was put on a liver transplant list. This was due to heavy, heavy alcohol use and no eating for one year. I got better am up, thin, look great, no one at work would ever in a million years guess my recent history.

long story short I now take the codeine and have been getting more and more addicted to it. saw the posts about loperamide after just having run out of codeine two days ago and IT SAVED MY LIFE. I cannot believe that I not only have not thrown up, (a miracle), but my mood is good, I can actually eat (I still have an incredibly hard time with being able to eat regularly), I have energy, and I feel a little high. I have taken about 60 mg today with 100mg of omeprazole. This OTC remedy could probably save a lot of people's lives and keep them out of jail, and I mean that very seriously. More people/families need to know about this. I am thinking of telling my daughter about it as she is addicted to opiates and gets them from the street - I see a doctor and have urged her to do the same (bullshit, I was going to drag her to the hospital this week is more like it). But, I know this might sound stupid, im afraid to give her information about another drug not knowing really what else she takes and if it wound up hurting her I could never live with it. Any advice here would help. Also asking you good people out there if you think I could actually stay off of codeine by taking loperamide once in a while, I know its not supposed to be taken every day, easier said than done as I wind up taking 10 codeine pills when im supposed to take four max. Anyway, that's just a little bit of a spill, thanks for any help you can provide. Also, I am a former nurse, good with others not so much with myself

You should stop drinking ALL alcohol. It is only making things worse.

If there's any Tylenol in your codeine pills try to find just codeine pills.

What does your diet look like? Vomiting doesn't just come from nowhere, but if you really destroyed your body that badly with alcohol and did nothing to repair your GI tract than this would be expected. Consider adding probiotics, supplements, and eating a non-inflammatory and healing diet. Do you use cannabis?

Thank you, I know I should not be near any alcohol and do try to stay away from it, hence the pills. My GI doc will barely give me the Tylenol with codeine, he definitely will not give me straight codeine. My diet is pretty good, I eat a lot of leafy greens, fish, chicken, no red meat, no processed food and no sugar. I drink water all day long at work, I have a nine hour day at a desk. I don't use cannabis. I also don't have insurance and cant afford it - my work offers a hideously expensive plan, and I don't make enough to afford obamacare - I cant afford to pay 300+ a month. I pay $225 out of pocket for my gi and a psychiatrist. The pain in my stomach gets so bad I have tried to take a knife to my abdomen and cut my guts out. Its make you crazy pain. I take vitamin c, probiotics are kind of expensive, do take Prilosec. Basically its either left over damage from my liver (which the gi doctor says shows no trace of anything on ultrasound or in labs), or I have some kind of undiagnosed issue. It seems rational to assume that its my liver considering two years ago I was on the transplant list. Frustrating all around.
