Jan 6 Attack on the Capitol and the aftermath

public hearings begin on thursday and continue on monday.

this came out today: Fake Trump electors in Ga. told to shroud plans in ‘secrecy,’ email shows

A staffer for Donald Trump’s presidential campaign instructed Republicans planning to cast electoral college votes for Trump in Georgia despite Joe Biden’s victory to operate in “complete secrecy,” an email obtained by The Washington Post shows.

“I must ask for your complete discretion in this process,” wrote Robert Sinners, the campaign’s election operations director for Georgia, the day before the 16 Republicans gathered at the Georgia Capitol to sign certificates declaring themselves duly elected. “Your duties are imperative to ensure the end result — a win in Georgia for President Trump — but will be hampered unless we have complete secrecy and discretion.”

The Dec. 13, 2020, email went on to instruct the electors to tell security guards at the building that they had an appointment with one of two state senators. “Please, at no point should you mention anything to do with Presidential Electors or speak to the media,” Sinners continued in bold.

Public hearings to be aired on your local ABC station at 8pm EST on Thursday. I assume Monday will be the same time/channel :drama:
Correction. Public hearings on all major network stations (ABC, NBC, CBS) except Fox. Most cable news networks except Fox News (big surprise). Starts in 40 minutes!!

Monday episode will be in the morning. Time to be announced.

This is like the proverbial running out of bullets and throwing the gun. Only people super into establishment politics care about this, and even that’s pushing it. The bee put it well, made me chuckle a bit

You're right. I'm into seeing Trump and his establishment cronies being served with justice. Probably too little too late but we can always hope.

1 1/2 years later the Democratic Party still blames Trump for an "insurrection" involving a crowd that was allowed to enter and were for all intents and purposes escorted by security into the building. They boldly say that it was a violent uprising when no one was injured by the "protesters' and only a protestor was injured. Yet for an entire year a large mob burned private and government property in "peaceful protest". I am certainly not a Trump supporter in any way shape or form, yet I'm amazed by the amount of cognitive dissonance taht the January 6th committee is displaying. Any valid form of hearing would include an opposing position being considered to assure that any evidence being brought forward is considered by both sides to be admissible. That's called due process and the lack of it means that this proceeding resolve to a "kangaroo court". What is this committee afraid of that they must disallow dissenting opinions in advance. If they actually had evidence wouldn't that evidence be enough to secure their accusations as being held the truth ? The very fact that they won't allow dissent among the committee (by hand picking members who only pre-agree in their desired outcome.

Did not many of this so called committee not encourage the "peaceful demonstrators" during the year long destruction and violence that racked the entire nation the same way they accuse Trump? Seems pretty disingenuous to me.

Once again the media props up the narrative that is being spun by the same actors who have been spreading 'facts' like Russian Collusion.

What happened to the Democratic Party being "the adults in the room" bringing healing and unification to our nation ? Time to reach across the aisle if they truly want to make this a hearing; this committee was hand picked to reach a predetermined decision.

This is NOT healing the nation and to be truthful may hurt them come mid term elections. Unfortunately they have nothing else so they go with it, double down with it in fact.

bringing healing and unification to our nation ?

i don't like to assume so what does that look like in practice?

where do we draw the line? should we just overlook egregious attempts to subvert the will of the u.s. people - for example the fake elector scheme - in the interests of healing?

thanks.

If they have the evidence, bring it before Congress in open session. Stop the dog and pony show and all the posturing. Allow full discussion from both sides of the argument.
If there is enough evidence for Congress to agree then move toward correcting the conduct of those involved in any accordance of the law that applies.
Move on ...

Is that clear enough?

You're putting the cart before the horse. This commission is not a trial and therefore it has no reason to have discussion from dissenting opinions. They are merely presenting evidence that will lead to a referral to the DOJ, which is when the actual trial will begin.

Also, regarding the "peaceful protest" have you even troubled yourself to watch any of the videos of the capitol breach from that day? There was nothing peaceful about it, man. Those animals were angry and assaulting cops left and right. So much for Blue Lives Matter. "Only a protestor was injured?" Really? Did you also not hear about officer Brain Sicknick, who had his head smashed in with a fire extinguisher and died from his injuries? Not mention the additional 4 officers who committed suicide in the weeks and months following the insurrection. Why do you think they felt the need to end their own lives? Maybe they felt betrayed by their political party?

Honestly, most of your talk sounds exactly like what some of my family members say who have NOT watched any of the videos of the unsuccessful coup. They get all their news from Fox, Newsmax, etc. Right wing entertainment propaganda made to look like the news. Drink the Cool-Aid much?

Sorry, I feel that this "hearing" is just a very sad piece of political posturing.

We're just going to have to agree to disagree.

Political posturing or not, there would be a lot of upset people had there been no hearing at all.

Call it an insurrection, or a protest that got out of control, doesn't really matter. It was a significant event that needs to be reviewed publicly. Nothing like that has ever happened since the 19th century (around the time of the civil war, I might add).

There have been public hearings about much less significant events.

Forgive me if this has been covered here (I didn't read every post) but I thought I was the only one who remembered Trump publicly predicting voter fraud long before the election. I haven't heard that even mentioned in the news.

I recall hearing him say that and immediately red flags went up--- he's gonna claim he won no matter what is exactly what I thought.

Curious: Why is this not significant? I haven't heard it talked about at all anywhere.

for profit.

the evidence is now beginning to show clearly that the trump team knew he had lost the election but they continued to push the lie anyway, using it to grift supporters out of somewhere north of $200 million.

that money, they promised the donors, would be used to 'fight for democracy', 'election integrity' and 'stop the steal' when, in fact, large amounts were funneled into trump businesses, friends and family. for example, kimberly guilfoyle was paid $60,000 from an 'election defense fund' for a speech - which lasted less that 3 minutes - at an event on january 6th.

This exact thing was addressed during the second hearing.
