IV Prep

Howdy,

I find IV Prep is my favorite part of using. It's almost ceremonial and I prepare the same way every time, nearly exactly like I was taught.

Any one else feel similar?

A lot of people do and the ritual becomes an addiction in itself..

I have only tried IV diazepam emulsion, so little to no real experience. I have experience with IM injections of morphine and oxycodone, but only from medical vials. Not much of a ritual :D

A lot of drugs share that attribute regarding ritual becoming addiction. Like rolling a joint - where i'm from, tobacco is toasted, mixed with hash and filled into a handrolled cone.

Another parallel is cigarette smoking. IME the feeling of smoke in the lungs and having the cigarette between fingers and lips, is a much tougher habbit getting rid of than nicotine is.

I used to be very conscientious when preparing to shoot up, would sterilize everything, was very clean and precise.

But i never enjoyed the process of shooting up itself. Especially later on. I remember spending 45 minutes in frustration, trying to find a vein due to fucking up so many veins etc. Not a pleasant experience, even in the beginning. It was a means to an end, never enjoyed it.

My friend would spend an hour trying to hit. Tore her arms up but she refused to allow me to help even though I could.

That wasnt the problem; I was good at hitting veins, having once been a vet tech (try drawing blood from a bird, or a cat that is flipping out). The problem was I injected alot of nasty vein destroying stuff like methadone syrup and tar heroin, so I started running out of viable veins. Had to resort to horrible places like my feet -- which hurt like a motherfucker.

But even in the beginning, wasn't a big fan of it. Quit shooting things along time ago, when i see someone shooting up in a movie I sort of cringe. Maybe stimulant users are different? Maybe they are the ones that like the ritual more? I guess that would make more sense if you're all geeked up, i dunno.

I definitely like to watch those drug scenes in films. I'm like yeah let me see that needle go in, and for preference in close-up XD. 'Specially nowadays 'cause that's the only vicarious satisfaction I get. Sometimes shoot saline, just to play pretend.

Having difficult veins is sometimes a good thing. IV injections aren't inviting. Sometimes when they have to draw blood from me, they are going to have to use the back of the hand to do it. The veins in the elbow are so hard to find. One contributing thing could be being overweight.
