Opioids IV Opiates and signs of success

Hello,

I only just recently IV'd an opiate for my Birthday, and I was curious as to whether I actually hit the vein. Whenever I push the syringe in I get a rush to my head and the general opioid feeling, but I'm not sure if I really hit the vein - since I'm skeptical as to whether one can really be so lucky as to hit a vein the first couple of times. No blood seemed to enter the syringe - at least that I could note, and no markings, bruises or lumps were left over - just a nice clean spec where I hit it. When I withdrew the needle and blob of dark red blood comes out; it's not much but it makes me wonder if I missed the vein entirely. My only other explanation as to why the blob of blood came out is because I still had the tourniquet on when I withdrew the needle, causing pressure. I'm aware that I have to remove the tourniquet so as to let the blood flow properly, but I guess I just got caught up in the moment. I don't feel any pain from it either.

I hit the Cephalic vein under my elbow, and frankly I don't know what a rush could be described as since I have never IV'd before. The dose was fairly minimal, and the high was there, but could it have been due to subcutaneous injection? Is it possible to miss a vein and not have a lump, bruise or any marking?

Thankyou in advance, my feathered friends, and sorry if this is in the wrong forum area.

Why would you hit yourself if you couldn't draw back blood? Once you feel the rush, you will definitely know, although it is possible to miss a shot and have no lumps or bruising, but as soon as you miss even a little bit it'd be very very easy to tell because it would hurt alittle.

Please don't ever inject if you can't register! You need to be able to draw back on the plunger and have blood come into the barrel to verify you are in a vein. I have read so many posts on here lately where people are injecting without registering.

I feel like if you don't know whether you got the rush, you didn't get it. It's not something that you don't notice. What were you injecting specifically?

Thanks for the replies. I IV'd suboxone - about 2mg worth. That's why I had the skepticism about the rush, since people claim that there is no rush IV'ing bupe. I definitely felt a rush, or flow swiftly from my arm up to my body and after a few minutes it's definitely working. I had no pain whatsoever - just the first prick through the skin. I'm almost certain that it was successful, but I'm also certain that it was just a lucky shot on a large vein. Frankly the whole procedure has put me off; is it even possible to completely control the safety of an intravenous injection? Even if one were to use swabs, single-use needles and micron filters I find it hard to believe that this procedure can be definitively safe.

Doctors safely give people IV injections in the hospital every day, so with the right knowledge and equipment, there is no reason why junkies can't safely IV. A lot of bad things can happen with IV use if the user doesn't know what they are doing, and no offense, but you sound like you don't. When you first start IVing, the best option is to have someone there with you who has lots of experience with IV use. Watch them hit themselves, and replicate each step. If this isn't an option for you, you probably should do some research into IV techniques. Like people said above, always make sure you are registered in the vein by pulling back on the plunger. If blood comes into the barrel, your good to push in your shot. Keep your arm steady, and if there is any pain at all when pushing the shot in pull out and try again. I always pull back again at the end of my shot to make sure I was in the whole time. Oh also loosen your tourniquet before you push your shot in.

I have IVed bupe many many times, at doses from .5mg to 4mg, and I have NEVER gotten a rush off it. I know what you mean by you can feel it going up your arm, but this is NOT a rush. The "rush" is most associated with heroin, some other drugs can provide a rush but bupe is not one of these.

Then you can understand my skepticism as to what a rush is.

I do know of the registering technique, but I couldn't get my hand to pull the thing back on my own without moving the needle. There was blood in the syringe though after pumping some of it in. Unfortunately I don't know or have anybody that knows anything about IV'ing, nor would they condone it. I did watch a few videos before doing it to see just how deep the veins were, the needles' angles and so forth.

I might close this thread, because it's already been answered and frankly I feel like an idiot for just pushing it in with uncertainty. Oh well, we all learn from our mistakes, right?

I just have one last question - would the tourniquet being tied on be responsible for the dot of blood coming out of the mark after removing the needle, or is that normal?

Unless you're a robot or a vampire or something...yes it is normal to bleed when you puncture your skin with a needle, particularly if you puncture a vein.

Even if you do everything perfectly correctly you can even end up with a bead of blood big enough to roll down your arm forming. That's why it's good practice to apply pressure to an injection site after you withdraw the needle- preferably something sterile (which is one of the reasons it's a good idea to use hand sanitizer when shooting up- the needle bank here even puts little single-serve sachets of hand sanitizer. Neat huh?)

So.. why exactly did you decide to stick a needle in your arm..? Please do some research.. I mean, knowing to register is like the absolute most basic thing in the world. Use your head. If you keep doing this without knowing what the hell you're doing, you're going to seriously hurt yourself.

You'd deffinately know if you missed, it hurts a good bit. And if you missed you won't get a rush, and even if you never felt a rush before, once you do you'll know what it is, but it depends on the opiate you shot like if it was methadone or suboxone theyll be no rush.

Maybe your advice would be taken in better if you weren't such a pompous ass-hole. The fact that I don't know anybody who IV's isn't relative to my safety, especially since I just moved to a new town recently. Blood did enter the syringe but I didn't pull it back. When I looked at the remnants of the syringe it was definitive that there was blood in there.

Ever since revisiting this site I have been invaded by pseudo-intellectual leftists like yourself who are so arrogant as to be a condescending prick to people who are asking genuine questions; which you don't even have the credibility nor authority to answer. This forum always speaks of "society" condemning those who practice drug-use and yet you're condemning me because I didn't pull back the plunger after hitting a vein and because I don't know anybody that IV's? Please. I have no doubt that you have fucked up more times than I have when it comes to drug-use, except you think that your mistakes are some form of credibility to what you say. I took the liberty of asking the question in the first place on this site, even though I can get checked at ATODS, and instead of providing an unbiased informative response as though it was a hypothetical question, you go ahead and call me an idiot and insult me. Nobody is going to ask you for help if you keep up that attitude.

LOL the rush is not the feeling of the liquid running into your vein sry but had to chuckle bout that, I def don't think you missed as you would have felt pain instantly & had swelling/lump at the site. Your right it is not safe, but you are generally doing the right things to minimize the risks/harms, microns, swabs, clean fits etc, but you really need someone to show you how to do it or do it for you a few times so you can learn correct technique you can't learn it by looking at pics, reading step by steps on the web. I'm not trying to be condecending or anything but why would you be on Subs if you have never used before ? maybe I misread your post but if your dead set on I.V.ing drugs there are much better drugs to be putting in your veins than subs. Good luck & all the best mate

You are shooting the wrong drug if you're looking for a rush. Suboxone will never give you a rush. Junkies aren't made by people chasing that cool feeling going up their arm. There's a reason nobody ever pawned their TV for a suboxone hit. We can all be a little bit ignorant our first few times. I shot up with a giant 5cc 18 gauge steroid syringe my first couple of times. But that rush when the morphine kick started was worth the pain and collapsed blood passages(in my idiotic naive little head at the time).

Just because you bleed doesn't mean you are hitting a vein. When skin is punctured you usually bleed. You know you registered a vein when a plume of red liquid bursts into your rig...

Chill out man. He's basically saying that since you didn't know to do one of the most basic steps of IVing then you really need to do more research before doing such a thing. He never called you an idiot.

We have a whole IV complications megathread that's on its 3rd version or so by now, so it's important to know what you are doing when you IV because there are some serious consequences when you mess up when shooting up.

When I had a low tolerance I definitely got a rush from IVing about 1mg of suboxone. I'm pretty sure Captain.Heroin reported the same thing. Now it's not one of the better opiates rushes, that's for sure, but to say that suboxone will never give you a rush is not true. Now that I have a high tolerance to IV heroin I don't get a rush from IVing suboxone, but I'm positive that I got it before since I obviously know what the rush feels like.

I gave the thread a quick read and it looks like a missed shot is likely BUT that doesn't mean you won't get any effect - the drug is still inside you and will be absorbed. It sounds like an IM as opposed to an IV.

IM = intra muscle and is when you don't bother with a vein at all - you just find a good thick chunk of muscle and jam the needle in as far as it will go and slowly depress the plunger.

All-in-all, I'd recommend not using a needle without more care being taken to educate yourself as you can do some serious damage with one. This is coming from someone who shoots up 15 to 20 times on your average day and sometimes double or triple that. So, yeah... After all, it's quite frequently the method used by the professionals (doctors) but, well, those folks learn a lot before just randomly poking at people with sharps and hope. Read up, get a STACK of new needles, and poke away until you get it right (if you're going to do it). Make sure you register (pull blood back into the needle) before banging. Keep reading more threads, more sites, more information. Keep asking questions, keep learning, keep practicing, and keep using the proper safety measures. Or, really, find another route of administration (ROA) and go with that. Shooting up has its benefits but it also has its risks.

That ridiculous tirade doesn't even deserve a response. I'm trying to help you and save you from loosing a bloody arm by sticking needles in yourself when you don't even know basic info. And 10+ years IV'ing and the thousands of people I've helped on this site and in real life, does give me the credibility. So you can either listen and learn from people who know what they are doing, or freak out because I didn't sit you down and baby you like a 4 year old and continue to endanger yourself.

Your choice. Enjoy. That's the last time I give you any help.
