Harm Reduction IV methylphenidate complication

I have been an IV user for around 5 years and never have problems. Sure, in the beginning I missed a vein a couple of times and had a small, painless bump that lasted like 5 minutes and just had to wait longer to feel the high--but thats pretty normal. I inject several times a day, and never have a problem getting it in a vein anymore.. anyway Ive shot everything from heroin (main dos) to crack.. anyway I tried to shoot ritalin the other day, following all the supposed correct steps. Anyway, it went in fine, but I developed a baseball sized bruised lump several inches above the injection site. Its lasted several days and Im wondering if this has ever happened to anyone before? Im pretty sure I filtered everything out. What could have possibly happened?

Hi there, welcome to BDD. I have made you a new thread (and removed the double post) as it is better to do that rather than to add your question to the bottom of an old one here - you will get more replies that way (check the "state of BDD" sticky).

There are a few things that could have happened - your needle could have slipped, giving yourself a missed shot, it could have gone through the vein and out the other side - even if you pulled back then there is still a hole in the vein and sometimes it can leak - or you could have developed an infection. If it is still present now I would get it seen by a doctor as we can't possibly diagnose you over the internet.. signs of infection to look out for include pain, swelling, redness and heat.

You're "pretty sure" you filtered everything out? You either did or didn't use a micron filter, and there's your answer. If you didn't, this is probably something you can expect to happen again and again and again until you aren't so lucky and die. I cannot repeat this enough. When shooting pills, use a micron filter they're cheap as fuck and are worth the investment to save your limbs/life

EDIT: Just re-read your post. If it's swollen to the size of a baseball seek immediate medical attention.

What's more important to you, your pride or your limbs. Get it checked out, Time is working against you.
