Yup, you read the title correctly. I decided to quit all my drug use, because not only is it preventing me from accomplishing thing's I want to accomplish, but overall and in all honesty, it's not filling that "void" anymore...and the sooner I quit and start filling that void the sooner I will be truely happy. In all honesty I've been using drugs probably why a lot of people do, to cover up issues,to increase mood and get that quick pleasure without having to work for it...but in reality- drug's don't solve the problem its a temporary fix that just screws things up more by wasting time etc. (Yes, I just now finally learned this and thank god I did while I'm still some what young lol).

I've been using/abusing drugs since I was about 15 years old. (I'm 21 now).

I smoked cannabis everyday all day pretty much from 16-21 years old with occasionaly popping pain killers (vic's,oxys etc.), and even went through an alcohol phase where I was drinking a pint of whiskey every night for 2 weeks streight. I've also been consuming Gabapentin everyday for 2 years (idk why I guess it made me more social).

A couple months ago I upgraded my drug use to a HARDCORE drug:| ....Crystal Meth... (mainly because I tryed adderall before and loved the stimulant high).

smoked meth roughly 50 times within the past 2 months and snorted it about 3 times. (haven't done that shit in weeks and never will again).

When I quit meth a few weeks ago- I got into Adderall... and I've been abusing Addy's for the past 2 weeks. Started out taking 40mg/day...and ended up eventually taking 110mg of adderall IR/day .

I decided to quit EVERYTHING...Pot,gabapentin,alcohol,adderall,meth,pain killers...EVERYTHING...

Thanks to my new android phone I downloaded an application that keeps track of how long I've gone without drugs...

I haven't experienced any withdrawls from anything other then tiredness/lack of energy, which will pass in about a week I'm sure.

no depression from quitting either, if anything I actually feel happier knowing that now I'll be getting my life on track and accomplishing goals etc. =D

I've been taking a multi vitamin everyday, fish oil, and protein shakes. Also plan on starting a work out schedule soon which will be pretty cool. (get that old 6 pack back haha).

I now truely understand why drugs are illegal- I used to think that its your own body and you should be able to do whatever you want to it... They're illegal to help prevent yourself from totally fucking your life up...regardless of how much fun or how great the euphoria is.

Wanted to share my story- Is there anybody else that recently just quit? If so, how's it going for you?

Also,
I plan on posting random updates on here about how things are working out for me as time goes by.

What about weed?

I'm still not even going to smoke weed anymore..even though weed in my eyes is pretty damn safe, and not even really a drug in my eyes. Maybe i'll occasionally smoke a bowl before bed, but maybe not... but regardless, marijuana should still be legalized- even if I decide not to smoke it anymore, I think people can benefeit from it..

Everybodys different- but for me, smoking weed is good for when I'm laying in bed listening to music and about to get some sleep...Smoking it during the day just doesn't work for me anymore, but tons of people wake'n'bake and go about they're day with no problems... Different strokes for different folks.

I have nothing against weed.

but certainly have a hate type relationship with every other drug I've used. Stimulants in particular.

Bottom line is- I'm drug free, and my life is now going to officially start :D

As gay as it sounds but just like that Bon Jovi song "Its my life, its now or never I aient gunna live forever"

hahaha for real

Glad to hear you've decided to be sober, OP. :)

I've been sober (minus alcohol occasionally and Adderall/Dexedrine a few times [not to get high though]) since August of '10.

Of course it varies from person to person and how long the person abused drugs and what type of drugs he/she abused... But apx. how long before I have my energy back? (I still feel a little blah-ish, not much motivation and I get tired pretty quickly just standing up, I find myself sitting down whenever I can.)

It's only been a couple days since I've quit using drugs, so I dont expect to feel recovered by now, it'll probably take a week or maybe even a month before I'm 100%.

but how long do you think until I'm recovered/feeling back to normal?

Also, Its been covered tons of time's on here and a quick search would probably answer my question- but are there any supplements/vitamins etc. that would help me out?

l-tyrosine,5htp,multi vitamin, fish oil ...I know about all those, anything else?

Thanks BL, I couldn't have done it without you

p.s. Thanks addictivepersona - and congrats on your decision to be sober!

The timeline for you to feel better really depends on you. It depends on how active you are in eating better, in being more active (as exercise/activities help), etc. I know it took me awhile to feel 100%. Fuck, I still don't think I'm completely 100%. Close though. I'd say I was significantly better by Januaryish (so, five months), but that was also when I started doing fasts and stopped with the Adderall/Dexedrine and caffeine I had picked up during finals weeks. 8)

And as far as which supplements/vitamins, there are TONS of threads around for help with that.

I've been eating pretty damn good.. Lots of meats. Been drinking lots of milk to not just because I love milk, but because I guess it's a nice source of l-Tyrosine which will help recover my depleted dopamine levels over time.

So my diet is in check, I'd say... Excercise is a different story. I've been lazy as heck since I've quit..Haven't had much energy, I tried some energy pills which consisted of 90mg of Caffeine per tablet, and popped 3 of those which is pretty equivalant to 3 cups of strong coffee, but still felt no effects.

Tomorrow I'm gunna FORCE myself to hit the gym regardless if I have no energy/no motivation lol. That should help a bit.

And yea, your right there are TONS of info in regards to supplements/vitamins on BL.

What are you studying in college, man?
I'm about to start college myself, which is another reason why I quit using/abusing drugs.

Cheers:D

Regular exercise (like 5 or 6 days a week) will have the biggest effect on your energy levels without a doubt. I would say this even if you had never used a drug in your life. It's a challenge, but commit to making a part of your daily routine, and you will notice major positive changes. Good luck!

Definitely try and make exercise part of your daily routine, even if it's walking/biking to work! I've noticed on days I don't bike to work, the day draggggs. :P

"Lots of meat" isn't the best diet for ya, dude. :P I'm actually studying dietetics, so if you want some advice on what you should be eating, feel free to drop me a line or ask in here. While there are tons of opinions on what you should be eating, I will say off the bat: You have to do what's best for you, and if eating lots of meat is what you have found to be the best for you, even after trying other ways of eating, then aim for the better cuts and get organic/grass fed. :P

I excercised today for the fist time in a long while. Jogged around a lake and on a trail ... about 1.5 miles altogether. Afterwards I felt amazing. Doing it again tomorrow. Jogging with minimal clothes also rewards me with a nice bronze tan haha. =D

that's sweet that your studying dietetics, of course it varies from person to person, but in your opinion, what would a healthy diet consist of?

Take care guys

In my opinion, a healthy diet consists of mainly (organic if it can be afforded) vegetables and fruits, with whole grains, and beans/legumes, with nuts and seeds sparingly. Minimal processed food and none with ingredients that can't be pronounced. Meat a couple times a week from grass-fed, organic, truly free range animals if meat must be eaten. Though did you know that ounce for ounce most beans/legumes have more protein than most meat?

^^^^ I'd like to second the no processed foods thing. If you make one change in your diet, make a serious effort to cut way back on processed foods. Look at the ingredients and try eating foods with less than 5 or 6 ingredients. It is a challenge, most of us grew up eating just about everything processed, but the truth is that food is (supposed to be) fuel and what your body actually needs is nutrients, which you just don't get from all the crap in a box.

My days usually go something like this: For breakfast, I eat a homemade protein bar and some fruit. Lunch is a peanut butter and jelly sandwich on whole grain (I buy the natural peanut butter without all the chems and HFCS... YUCK! Same goes for jelly... like I said really start reading nutrition labels.) and a big bowl of broccoli with fresh lemon juice or some carrots. Dinner is some sort of lean meat (mostly chicken breast) grilled with caramelized onions, whole grain rice, and some sort of veggies. I snack on almonds, fruits and veggies through out the day.

Anyway, I know you didn't ask about my diet, but I just wanted to point out that if you start reading labels and eating more strategically, you will notice a number of positive changes. It can be very challenging at first to avoid some of our favorite junk foods, but you will soon lose a taste for them and the benefits are very noticeable.

What about canned beans and frozen fruits? I am not the kind of person that plans eating so far ahead that I have my beans soaked..

imo frozen fruits are great, they taste better then most 'fresh' fruit (unless it is truly fresh and you picked it yourself or bought it from an organic farm, but i live in a city with student money).. I eat lots of frozen cherries, raspberries and blackberries. That stuff costs a fortune to buy fresh!

Maybe check out powerlifting if you don't like cardio? It gets you in shape really fast and makes you truly strong, not just big.

American peanut butter is straight garbage, i concur :D

Best of luck to OP, I'll be sending my positive energies in your direction. I know you can do it. Please keep us posted :)

Lol not just in your opinion, that's the opinion of the entirety of modern nutritional science, my friend ;)

I would only like to add that while I think very few(if any) people here at bluelight actualy need to eat meat, those that do need not worry about grass fed, free range meats and poultry, at least IMO. These foods are unhealthy enough as it is(animal proteins promote quite a wide range of diseases), so unless one buys free range or organic meats for moral reasons, there is really not much benefit. And if it was a moral/ethical reason, why are you consuming animal foods to begin with?

On a side note - It's good to post again. L<3ve you guys :D

so unless one buys free range or organic meats for moral reasons, there is really not much benefit.

sorry if this is derailing the thread but I want to point out that true free range, grass fed cow has a superior omega 3/6 ratio compared to its factory farmed cousin.

^^Ah, I didn't know that.

I do know that there are various "high(er) omega 3/6" eggs/beef/what have you at the grocery store where I shop, but I didn't know this was a standard property of free range products.
Good to know, Mehm :)

How significant of a difference are we talking though?

according to mercola.com (not sure how credible this is) grain fed is over 20:1 (omega 6 : omega 3) while grass fed is .16:1. This is due to the fact that that grass and leaves generally have very good ratios of omegas.

Which brings the topic full circle and back to the OP. How about deriving most of your protein and fats from leafy greens? It is certainly possible, look at the muscle mass of gorillas and orangutangs who have very similar digestive tract as humans but live almost entirely on leaves and fruit. The key here is either spending several hours each day chewing your food, or putting it through a high speed blender.

I never soak beans. Ever. The cooking time is only reduced by 10-15 minutes anyways (found that out when I used to soak 'em). You're already cooking them for an hour or so, what's another 15 minutes? :P

The reason I avoid canned beans is because of the sodium and the taste. Canned beans just don't taste as good as ones cooked from dry.

Frozen fruit is fine to eat, as long as you make sure you get the one without added sugar.

And yeah, most peanut butter is pure garbage. I get natural organic nut butters.

Very true. :P

And yeah, it's true that meat is unhealthy in large amounts (which is what most people eat). According to some, meat is healthy in small amounts though. And by small amounts, we're talkin' a deck of cards sized serving size, once or twice a week.

Glad to see you back! :)

Same here I hate canned beans I always get dry beans and cook em myself. I soak on occasion though.

Almond butter is my shizz. =D

Anything once is week is probably no big deal. Trouble is, most people I know who eat meat dont just stop at a piece the size of a deck of cards, and certainly not once or twice a week. Most meat eaters I know don't think a meal is a meal without some meat 8(
