My grandfather developed Parkinsons and dementia. I stayed with him to the death rattle. I visited him at the specialized residence often to help feed him and interact. It was the saddest thing to watch the declining destruction of a man -- powerful, dignified, respected by many, and had rendered much to the United States. I only know of 5 tasks and duties he performed as a US Air Force Systems Analyst and Civil Servant, his wife and family were not allowed to know more than those 5 task. Top Secret information carries a heavy bag when they will go as far as performing lie detector tests on family members. He also was a in the International Lion's Club serving as district governor and member. The man traveled to Hong Kong and surrounding areas 8 times taking each one of his grandchildren with him & my grandmother. It was weird he would go off by himself some days to do stuff while my grandmother and I went and did things. He personally knew a Rolex shop owner in the International Lions Club in Hong Kong and I thought that was cool as crap. His physical movement, balance, and walking went downhill faster than anyone I've ever seen this happen to. I cried hard and this helped.
He loved traveling and had some kind of clause in his pension allowing free flights for himself and my grandmother. He loved those "Rolex copy watches" or "Row-Rex" on every corner of Hong Kong. Some would last 3 years, some only lasted 2 months but for $40 US in the 90's was a cool score.
