Oh no killing people and blowing shit up this isn't what war is, haha war is ĵust that. More than 100 million died in war last century. This century is fortunately less bloody. So far.

That is interesting about war crimes, it's fucking war. Oh no someone got killed in war. What the fuck do you cry baby bitches think war is. It is brutal bloody and guess what people die. People kill each other it is war, war crimes, Tell that to the terrorists. Grow up you fucking cry babies war is hell people kill each other. I know why don't you go over there and cry about it.
this has to be the dumbest comment in this whole thread

War is terrible but the realities are now broadcast almost instantly, So what is war. It is killing people and blowing shit up. Get use to it that is reality, if you don't like which normal people don't, guess what there ain't shit you can do to stop it. I know why don't you protest a war thousands of my miles away and feel empowered while accomplishing nothing.

should we not try and improve/ progress?
of course we should... if life is truly meaningless, then the only possible meaning of meaningless is the progression of time... progress....

but humans should never believe we've ever grown beyond where we came from, or that we are somehow different than our modern ancestors.

Also I'd rhetorically retort, what makes you believe any of what we've been doing is "progress"? Progress towards what? Some social constructivism ideal? The mad deadly gangster athiest God?

You don't get it you can't stop evil and evil spawns war. That is reality. All this bitching on this thread, while I find it amusing, accomplishes nothing.

Why do humans love to pretend we are so much different than our great-great-great-great-great-grandfathers?
We've had the Enlightenment and the dispersal of rationality over superstition, which has gone some ways toward creating a more humanistic, less theological, framework for conduct. Of course, last century we saw what is possibly the worst of humanity, so I largely agree that we haven't fundamentally changed.

As to how the concept of war crimes effects this conflict, I just think it's clear that burning children alive is a war crime. Bombing a terrorist stronghold and killing civilians (collateral damage, what a clinical term for such horror) as a result is different. Why we do what we do matters. Burning children because they are Jews is morally more repugnant than killing civilians because fanatics are using them as human shields- both awful but one is a side effect, the other is the pure intention. These things tell you what your enemy is likely to do in the future, unless you stop them doing it. Hamas could stop this but won't, Israel are going to try to make it so they actually can't do it again.

Evan Saddam thought and did have nerve gas, gave it to Syrians. But we should have left him alone. I could care less about brutal third world dictators as long as they are not a threat.
This reminds me of the ‘Syrian gas attack’ a few years ago. It was probably the fakest thing I’ve ever seen the American population fall for.

Some social constructivism ideal?
we can idealize, but part of the progress is trying. we can't just allow atrocities to happen because "war is bad". the international community just lets it happen, gives money to it, and watches it on t.v... we LOVE war like we love a good boat race crash.

You can talk progress as we build and China and Russia build more and better killing machines
We need dialog, as China prepares for world domination and Russia plans to put The old USSR back together. Then there is the Iranians. We need dialog and progress, go smoke another joint. This fucking world is going to get bloody again just like the last century and it is just beginning. War crimes, what is that? Who cares, cry about it protest, and cry some more. You can't stop evil.

This is truly disgusting if true.

we can idealize, but part of the progress is trying.
yes, such is evolution of any species

we can't just allow atrocities to happen because "war is bad"
I never suggested that, I was just talking about the idea

the international community just lets it happen, gives money to it, and watches it on t.v... we LOVE war like we love a good boat race crash.
less than 1% of 1% of "war crimes" ever committed have ever been prosecuted, it's a notoriously difficult crime to actually follow up on

I'm just saying man.... I'm not saying anything, I'm just saying.... you know?

I know let's keeping talking, we need more peace dialog and how about a giant peace quilt Yea violence will stop then, and how about letting those who do bad things that we are writing their names down

it's a notoriously difficult crime to actually follow up on
i mean, we could try denouncing them more thoroughly... and withhold the BILLIONS in aid we are giving until they are at least a little more chill about the war crimes. i personally will not allow my tax dollars to go to said things without making a fuss about it.

Nothing really ever changes, it will get worse, the whole world is waiting to explode in violence
