is there anything you ALWAYS WANTED TO KNOW?

About the blind people dreaming thing....they definitely dream; also, generally blind people have some kind of light receptivity so even if their sight is so low as to be useless, they still see shades...

But yeah there's no reason they wouldn't dream, they would just dream using the senses they're accustomed to...

The hallucinogenic drugs one is interesting; I know I get a lot from acid aurally and with tactile senses as well (thus leading to me explaining how "it's fun to chew water" 8)) so I wonder if the same thing applies?

Why is something bad referred to as the "shit hitting the fan"?

*goes off and checks google*

2 url's (one preacha stated but didn't give full explanation)

Meaning

An uproar caused when a previously secret situation becomes publicly known.

Origin

Originated in the USA in the 1930s.

and

"The expression [the shit hits the fan] is related to, and may well derive from, an old joke. A man in a crowded bar needed to defecate but couldn't find a bathroom, so he went upstairs and used a hole in the floor. Returning, he found everyone had gone except the bartender, who was cowering behind the bar. When the man asked what had happened, the bartender replied, 'Where were you when the shit hit the fan?' I was watching a sign language interpreter on TV the other day and it occurred to me...how do you say someone's name in sign language? I don't think the guy was spelling out names because he wasn't using enough gestures, but he was definitely referring to specific individuals.

Can you say a name in sign language when it's not a proper english word?

^ I know you can definitely spell out names. Maybe for more common names there are specific signs, but I think in most cases they do spell them out. :)

I asked a girl at work who teaches sign language for you today Raz.

She said that most of the time people have a single gesture, or maybe a couple of gestures that are used to signify them, like a nickname. The example she used was one of her students who name is Brian Woods*, so everyone refers to him using the letters BW.

So when you are first meeting someone, you would generally get told their name by having it spelled out, but then once you are familiar with their nickname, that's what you'd use.

Possibly really dumb question ahoy.

How do banks make their money?

Is it just from the exhorbitant fees and charges they slap on our accounts, or are they 'playing' with the money we put through there by investing it or playing stockmarket with it, thus earning themselves more profits?

I hope I explained that clearly.

^Yup I think it's through investing and stockmarket and stuff. I asked my dad once how ING can give such good interest rates and that was his answer, so you'd think it'd be the same with real banks.

Thanks Jo, I thought so.

I think with ING and other online banks, the fact they also have no 'overheads' (ie. no actual physical buildings/offices, less staff to pay etc) also accounts for their ability to give better interest rates.

yeah, that's why the NAB lost 326 million in 2004 due to unauthorized bad trading. A reason why banks wait overnight to do online bank xfers as they trade with that $$ while you wait for the other person to get the money deposited.

Here's a scientific diagram I've developed to show why.

Tricky cool huh?! :)

and on the bank thing, that's why it takes 3 days for a cheque to clear aswell, even if you cash it at the same bank it's written from

I wonder how some people remember how to breathe

Funny you should ask, BBG...
Spontaneous respiratory drive is primarily controlled by hypercapnoeic drive; that is, when the levels of CO2 in the blood rise to a particular level, the brain gives the impulse to breathe.

In patients with chronically elevated CO2 levels, such as in emphysema, this drive is largely diminished. In these cases, the brain relies on hypoxic drive; or low oxygen levels in the blood, to trigger the respiratory response.

These is a third subset of people who are just plain stupid. They all die. You never hear about them because no-one cares.

Hope that helps clear a few things up for you matey :)

Why did they used to pour huge slabs of concrete on graves back in the day?
Was it to stop zombies or something?

Xcidium, you're a rock star! thanx heaps for ur diagram, its awsome... can ya help me out with this question... do electrical companies have to pay an electricity bill?
