Is there any acid culture in San Francisco in the present day?

hey there! I'm a plucky young Brit planning a trip to SF later in the year. I'm not usually one to take acid and go out but that's simply due to the lack of nice environments in clubs to trip in. Of course, in its time this wouldn't have been a problem. Does any of this culture of soft/psychedelic rock and cozy clubs still exist? or am I chasing a dream? I'm still going of course, but I'd love to hunt out a love shack somewhere. Or does the culture still exist in it's own evolved form? Kinda like how 90's trance has evolved into mostly shit these days :/

thanks people

SF is a dirt hole and not a safe nor cozy place to trip. You will find homeless drug addicts and transsexuals abound there

In my time I have met both and fear neither. That said, American drug addicts I'm sure are more violent than their British counterparts.

What he's trying to say is that the San Fran of 2015 is not the SF of 1969. H/C combo bags were a popular DOC last time I heard.

While sourcing isn't allowing on BL, I will tell you that you'll find a better scene (for music, drugs, whatever) elsewhere in the Bay Area, maybe Oakland? (not that Oakland is ANY safer than SF, very possibly worse)

thanks for that. It's such a shame that such an iconic and unique city seems to have fallen into ruin a bit. I'm not American, and I've never been there, but from what I've heard SF is unique to America, and unique to the world, and I completely believe them. It's been my dream to visit for years, and hearing of it's problems saddens me greatly. that said, after a little research people said it's mostly all fine, just keep cool, blend in and don't flash cash about and you'll have no bother. I guess that's the same in most cities.

I'll be sure to check out Oakland though, or surrounding areas. idk, I'm sure I'll find some friendly looking hippy (homeless or otherwise) who'll be able to point me in the right direction.

And lastly, Felonious Monk, I love that name :D

SF hasn't been about LSD or psychedelics for decades or almost 50 years, and even in the late 60s you had lots of hard drugs like heroin, speed/methedrine, PCP, and even coke becoming popular and it wasn't all about hippies or peace and love.

Lots of most every drug in SF in my experience even though I'm not from California, but also a lot of scammers about as well as people that'd like to sell you something and take you to a sketchy place out of sight and rob you. Just know what you're doing and it should be all good. I'd look for mushrooms though in SF. It's be easier to find I'd think.

Has anyone in this post been to SF current day ? They area where the grateful dead was created called haight / ashbury is still very much the same Tho the scene isn't quite as big as back in the day . The area still has tons of homeless hippie kids who live in golden gate park. If you can't find acid on haight st I dunno what to tell you. But answer your
Question the acid culture is still very much alive in present day SF

I live near enough to the bay and still have friends there who are part of a scene. To the OP I don't know how much luck you'll have. My best guess if I were going to SF would be to hit up gay clubs, certain parts of the Haight, as well as Berkeley (which is across the bridge). What you will encounter is lots of marijuana and other drugs, I'm sure that if you look in clubs you'd be able to find E and uppers. If you go to the mission, inner mission, and tenderloin you could find opiates, meth, crack... That's off the top of my head. For LSD? I'd go to a concert or some sort of cultural event and be very social.

I live in SF and agree that Hippie Hill in Golden Gate Park is still very much a destination for cool people interested in psychedelics, particularly mushrooms and LSD. Comments relative to the need to exercise street smarts (especially in areas where crack and opiates are being sold) are absolutely warranted. I'd add that Berkeley is definitely worth checking out.

In short, I would say that the culture has morphed but not disappeared. You have to look. You have to chill. It's a journey, dude. Namaste!

I'm going to reactivate this thread as I am going out to SF and environs next month. Any new info available in the year this post was last updated? I saw Silicon Valley mentioned, which is more the area I'll be in but I plan to take in SF a bit, too, if I can.
