Is there a drug that gives more control over bodily functions?

I started wondering yesterday while I was doing some meditation, I was focusing on breathing and then moved over to my heart. I noticed that while focusing on my heart beat I was able to reduce its beating rate for a slight amount, I started wondering if there is a drug that gives more control over bodily functions? Like easier control over ones body, like the heart rate, body temp. I know some monks are able to do this. Is there a drug that makes this process easier?

I think if there was it wouldn't be advisable. Like if you could think your heart to beat, what if you forgot for a second or two. Plus that would get tiring/boring quick.

Running will lower your resting heart rate. Smoking will increase it. Things you can do like that if you want.

maybe benzos by way of just calming everything down

im not a doctor though

Nope, the drugs do it for you, the drugs are then controlling the body not you. There are none which can give you more control over your body, maybe neotropics.

You're going to have to work hard to be able to control your vitals. You're on the right path, though. Try coupling your breathing and heartbeat into a negative feedback loop as part of your meditations; Breathe in for four heartbeats, hold for four heartbeats, exhale for four heartbeats, and repeat. Over time your respiration and heartbeat will decrease, and though at first you will probably lose bodily awareness and fall into a theta state trance for a few minutes before snapping back out of it, eventually you will be able to ride the line where you're fully aware of your respiration/heartbeat and their relationship and nothing else. Over time you will be able to drop into this state nearly effortlessly, just as you are able to now with a bit of effort.

Drugs aren't the answer to these sorts of questions.

Too much ganja smoking in this thread lol.

No, there definitely isn't. Maybe some that can give you a stronger sense of circulatory, blood flow etc. like amphetamines but they all regulate the body themeselves. You will never be in control of autonomous functions.

I have to ask...to what end? What do you mean to gain by messing with involuntary bodily functions?

OP, the likely reason you where able to seemingly modify bodily functions and effect heart beat etc was most likely due to the relaxation inherently involved in focusing entirely on a single point like the heartbeat etc.

Having studied and practiced spiritual stuff and exercises around genuine control of the body in this way i can tell you its not something that the average man like you and me can accomplish without at least a couple of years of daily practice.

Hell it can take at least 3 years simply developing the minimum metal control and focus requirements for more this with at least a minimum of 1 hour a day 7 days a week to get to this point.

With regards to drugs assisting with this, yes its possible, but they would be natural "drugs" that would assist with meditation and so forth. So non of the usual or common recreation drugs

Lol, when I read the title to this thread, I thought I was gonna have to advise the patient to requesting an SSRI from their psychiatrist for premature...erm...well, you get the idea.

I swear when I was on MMT (Methadone maintenance/130mg), and Trazadone & Neurontin, I would have uncontrollable jerking and spasms while laying down in deep relaxation, or at the verge of sleep, my legs would jump so violently I would lift myself out of bed, or kick the wall, or if I am dreaming im tripping over something, ill jerke my body how I dream it, freaked me out! ithink the methadone mostly has a lot to do with it, even w/out trazadone, I would get same feeling, and I don't peg Neurontin to be something to cause that, now that im off the clinic 130mg, I don't experience the uncontrollable jerking
