Benzos Is there a Benzo to use that will reduce Xanax tolerance?

My Xanax tolerance is sky high? I like it just don't wan't to use so much. Would a switch to Valium or Klonopin for awhile would reduce the xanax tolerance or just do the same thing.

Is there a Benzo that would do this? Thanks!!!

Brian

In my experience, benzo tolerance cannot be reversed. Maybe others have differing opinions, but it still takes the same amount of Xanax or temazepam to get me high as it did when I was addicted to them.

There is very high cross-tolerance between benzos so no, as far as I know, taking another benzos will not allow your xanax tolerance to drop at all.

at rehab they give people there for Xanax phenobarbital for the first five days or so to keep them stable and ease them thru the Wds. if its possible to lower Xanax tolerance that would be one way.

The tolerance develops to the effects of benzos on the brain and not the substances. Equivalent doses of other benzos will not reduce your tolerance. Try taking slightly lower doses of diazepam, clonazepam or oxazepam for a while.

I agree with wiggi, you're barking up the wrong tree. Some are a little different than others, but at the end of the day benzos are benzos and in the long run there's no point in differentiating. Switch drugs, lol

I went for several months without benzos after being addicted, and my tolerance stayed relatively the same. So no, I don't think it's possible to lower your tolerance. You can still switch to bulk powder (alprazolam, or more readily available phenazepam) to lower the cost of your addiction so you can taper.

The only thing you could do would be to switch to a longer-acting Benzo (like Diazepam) and slowly taper, then have a period of abstinence. But, as people have said, Benzo tolerance can hang around for an extremely long time and I doubt it's possible to get a tolerance back to baseline at all :\

Benzo's all act the same way. The only real difference is half-life and the time it takes for the drug to hit you.

Pheno works well if you want to kick benzo's cold turkey. Keep in mind you will still hurt a lot. I was a 7 year user of Xanax at a high dose (12mg's a day) and I felt like shit for a good month and a half.

Pheno will help prevent seizures and allow you to get a few hours of sleep in.

The only way to reduce your tolerance is to go through a period of abstinence.....and even if you do that, it will never get down to what you were when you first started using.

Be safe if you choose to quit for a bit. Xanax is one of those habits that really fucks with you mentally and physically if you quit. I had a seizure in rehab (even though I was on Pheno and Gabapentin). I highly recommend quitting the medical way if you choose to go that route.

No, there is a high cross tolerance between benzos.

"Man, my tolerenace is reallllly high to coors light. If i switch to liek bud light or vodka, will my tolerance for coors go down??"

^ Do you know if benzo tolerance can be reduced by any means?

Other than abstaining? Tapering would help. Substituting some doses of a benzo for a different CNS depressant might also help.

There might be merit in switching from one benzo to another. If you are trying to lower alprazolam tolerance, switching to a longer lasting benzo (to avoid re-dosing) may help slightly.

Flurazepam is also a partial-agonist benzo, which has long lasting metabolites. I imagine if you switched to it (once per day) it could help to slightly reduce tolerance from benzos like midazolam, alprazolam, etc.

Other than switching to a less-potent benzo (like oxazepam, chlordiazepoxide, etc.) or a Z drug (which may or may not help, which has been previously discussed above, they appear to be a hit or miss for a lot of people), or other CNS depressants, I am not sure how you can continue to take benzos and avoid benzo tolerance. I mean, you could get a benzo antagonist (like giving addicts naltrexone) but I'm sure it wouldn't be pleasant. Ignoring unreasonable options like that, then I would have to say that taking a break/tapering is the best overall solution.

im prescribed 3 mgs of kpin a day. and when i occasionally buy a script of xanax off the street its way more effective mg for mg than the kpin. so in my belief switching to a diff benzo for a month or 2 really helps. would have to disagree with above posts.

Well xanax is just more potent mg for mg.

Yep I'm hearing you.

Benzo tolerance does eventually come down somewhat, it takes a bloody long time though. Years in some cases.

*edit* It seems to vary from person to person, strange things benzo's. Try a bit of alcohol with your benzo's if you're having tolerance issues, works for me.
