Is my psychiatrist a retard?

Hello everyone,

So after prescribing me Adderall 10 x60, Klonopin 0.5 x60, Temazepam 15 x30 instead of the Xanax he gave me before, and "recommending" I take Brintellix by loading me up with a bunch of free samples I didn't want, we basically had a discussion and he said it's okay to take whatever, whenever. Earlier on he had told me to take Klonopin at night, Adderall in day. But obviously, I needed a higher dosage Adderall as the effects were wearing off, so we decided to try about 60, even though he pretty much would have offered 90 had I asked. Anyway, I do my research. You're not really supposed to take Klonopin with Temazepam unless you're trying to get high. He told me Temazepam has no "effects" when you wake up, even if you sleep for a few hours, which is untrue as I wake up barely able to walk, especially taking it with the Klonopin. Then I run out of Adderall. This is basically 10-20~ Adderall short from what he prescribed. I ask for it, and he makes a huge deal out of it and says I have to come for an immediate appointment after.

We start off like usual. He gets upset I didn't try the Brintellix. I tell him that I read it's not really meant to be combined with ALL that other stuff. Then he starts telling me it's okay, and I originally went in for ADHD anyway, and he's loading me up with all this other stuff. He gets "offended" after I describe to him that I take Adderall as needed throughout the day and he says he strictly told me to take one in the morning and one in the afternoon, and starts bullshitting like he actually gave me specific directions. I ask about the Temazepam and Klonopin at night. Then he says no, Klonopin at day, but then backtracks and says at night then day, or whenever you want it. Anyway, all I'm trying to do is up my Adderall to maybe 90, or get an XR version, or try something else that might work better, and he just goes on about how basically if I don't take the Brintellix I'll have to find another psychiatrist and that I have no say in it, etc. Like what the fuck? He tells me I'm depressed and I'm doing completely fine with the Adderall. I just needed a little bit more. The Klonopin is just there to take away some of the side effects of Adderall. Oh, and get this, he gives me shit for "not eating" and "not sleeping" enough when that's the side effects of the Adderall, while refusing to really switch me to anything else that may not have those side effects for me. And he's the one who gave me the Temazepam, then he acts like ... he's going to take it away after I tell him he basically lied to me and told me I could get up in a few hours and feel perfectly normal. So he switches me to Ambien, whatever. Oh, and get this: he knows that I can't sleep because of Adderall, and prescribes sleeping medication, but he was absolutely infuriated when I told him I take an Adderall after I get out of classes to do my homework. Then he got mad that I would take like three a day... but then his "recommendation" that he said I was forced to follow, or he wouldn't deal with me anymore was... 2 in the morning 2 at night, 2 Klonopins, the Ambien, and of course, Brintellix which he describes as some sort of magic particle. I feel like he works for them or gets paid to promote them. Brintellix is an anti-depressant, and he claimed that it could replace Adderall because of increasing dopamine levels. When I asked him for any citations, any proof (oh and he said I said some bullshit I never did, like I had anxiety at nights) without showing me anything about it, he just told me I have to basically trust him as god because what he says is the complete truth. Anything I bring up otherwise is false.

Is this guy completely batshit? Should I be taking all this or should I say fuck it and get a new doctor while I have withdrawals? Or what are my rights? Can he just cut me off if I don't forcefully take his sample drug? Has anyone ever combined all this stuff for normal daily use? Oh, and he wanted me to take some cancer medication to increase my appetite. All I went in for was Adderall, because I can't focus, and Adderall does wonders. The Klonopin does help, but it's not necessary. Nothing else should be necessary. If I can't sleep on Adderall, or can't eat, he basically offers more drugs and then criticizes me for it still.

If I want to switch to someone else who's not going to make me kill myself with a bunch of drugs when I just need Adderall, what's the best way of doing so smoothly?

Thanks

Id recomnend talking to other drs available, finding out how they will help you while still seeing the other dr for. Don't go doctor shopping. Keep the dude you're currently seeing happy and just go with what he says in the mean time. Hopefully you can find a more accomodating dr or the current one wakes up.

For something a little related. My gp was prescribing an antipsychotic through a period of psychosis. I got well and told him id stopped taking it. He wasn't that happy but accepted and kept writing the script (I never filled it) for anotjer 6 months with me telling him each time that I'm not taking. Thankfully it never put my pain management meds being cut down or off. But this last visit he sees it needs a refill and asks "youre not using this anymore are you? Better take it off then". That was that

Follow-up:

I went ahead and did one day of the doctor's "planned" drug schedule for me. Woke up at 8AM after getting a full night's rest. No alarm clock. Still felt tired, because I guess at this point I'm depending on Adderall. I take two 10 as suggested in the morning. I take one Klonopin 0.5 as suggested. After hesitation, I take a Brintellix 10. I go about my normal day. I don't really notice the Adderall this time. I go to my first class, I'm fairly calm. But I can't seem to focus. I zone out like I usually do. Not as bad. By the time the next class is about to start my next dosage of Adderall is up, but I just feel shitty. I have a headache, for whatever reason. I feel a little bit like puking even though I haven't ate, and for the first time, I guess possibly due to Brintellix, or the Adderall not working as well in this combo, I feel hungry. So I don't really have any motivation to go to the next class. I skip it. I sit there doing nothing while I have a lot of assignments due. I try to do them but just... can't. So I'm pretty much out of it, and take my next dosage, as recommended, of the 2 Adderall and Klonopin. I start driving and halfway through I feel super tired/drowsy and find myself falling asleep behind the wheel almost. I try to get to the pharmacy as soon as possible, as I'm out of Adderall now. I go there, and the doctor gave me specifically "Klonopin" printed out because he was too damned lazy to write it out so the pharmacy refused to give the generic brand, and they only carry generic. Then with the Adderall, since for some reason he thought it would be terrific to give me 2 doses of 10 twice a day, my insurance doesn't cover it. And since I'm drowsy, etc, I run over a curb really bad on accident. Day just keeps getting worse. By the time I'm home I'm furious. I shouldn't be this mad about the situation, but I am. I have a bunch of drastic thoughts and have that attitude where you just want to fight someone. Aggravated, tired, confused. So I just take a Klonopin and now at least I'm calm, but I used four Adderalls today with absolutely no effect. And now I don't have anymore.

Keep in mind for the previous two weeks before this event I was doing absolutely terrific. I'm pretty sure Brintellix isn't supposed to be fast acting so I doubt it fully contributed to what happened today, however, I was obviously put into an uncomfortable situation, and whatever Brintellix did, it made me feel like I was a zombie, I'm assuming because it was mixed with Klonopin. I don't know where the aggravation came from. And again, the Adderall didn't work at all. The closest thing was very slight dry mouth, but that's it. I was not energetic, I was not focused. I felt... bad. I had a headache. I just wanted to lay down, but I wasn't tired. I'm still not tired enough to sleep. I just feel like how you feel in the morning when you get enough rest but just don't want to do anything.

I would be suspicious of any physician, shrink or no shrink, who prescribes two very potent benzos at the same time. Since you take clonazepam during the day the long-lasting effects should still be present at bedtime so only a soft benzo should be taken as a sleep aid, not temazepam which is the strongest benzo available as Rx in the US. No wonder your cruiser is listing, should see another doc the sooner the better.
