This is for all the hardcore tweakers in the BL community!

Has anyone out there tried methamphetamine and NOT regretted their decision?

Has anyone been able to achieve YEARS of normalcy with sporadic, recreational meth use?

What about crack? Would you guys say that it is less or more compulsive than meth?

I have yet to try either, but through observance of friends I have come to the conclusion that crack is a much more compulsive experience, but once you end a binge you can go without thinking about it for a while and pick up with a normal life, whereas methheads long to flirt with that high again even after a binge is over. Do you guys feel that this is an accurate observation?

Are you under the impression that trying meth once will ultimately lead to a stint of addiction that is unavoidable?

Thanks guys, these two drugs have fascinated me for a long time because of their intimidating reputations

It's the lifestyle that dooes you in. Your DOC doesn't really matter - you can use meth responsibly - it's just that the kind of people who do meth (and get into trouble) are taking risks that they shouldn't be.

"Chasing the rush" is one of the most destryuctive parts of stimulant use and you see it with both. In the case of meth heads there is often consequent sleep loss.

I haven't used meth or crack but I was a big coke head for a year of my life.. It really does come down to chasing the high and never getting sleep.. I was constantly using and never taking a tolerance break and I ended up never getting the desired high and just using more and more and staying up for days on end.. I never was achieving the original goal (the rush/high you originally get when you start using).. Now I'm addicted to opiates and have to say personally opiate addiction is more appealing to me than addiction to any upper.. at least you get a beautiful nod, are relaxed, pain free, and can sleep.. But then again physical withdrawal is a bitch (from opiates)

I've met people who can do any drug heroin, crack, etc. and stick with their self imposed rules about using (i.e. only once a month etc. and never run intro trouble and then others who can't at all and become addicts) I think it comes down to how much self control you have, and sticking with your self imposed rules about using (how often, how much, etc.) this is what draws the line between addiction and recreational use.. at least in my opinion

Sekio is spot on - any drug can be used responsibly (see below) but with certain drugs I believe the stigma and surrounding cultures greatly shape the use patterns as well as perception

If most people in society believe that only desperate junkies use certain substances, then naturally a lot of people will think, "I don't view myself as a desperate junkie so I won't try them" so more people who know they are 'desperate junkies' or don't care if they are seen as such will use these substances.

The cultural context plays a huge role as well - if I can get coke in a quick, casual exchange at a bar I frequent, it's much different then going down to the west side of Chicago to cop heroin in scary ass neighborhoods so if you can only get a drug dealing with some scary ass meth, crack or heroin dealer, people have to be willing to do so in order to use those drugs. Most people in society have had intravenous drugs such as morphine, fentanyl, hydromorphone, etc. that are on par with heroin during medical procedures at some point and they don't turn into junkies.

Heroin can be one of the most physically-addicting substances on the planet yet hundreds of millions are exposed to drugs with similar effects and still few are turning into junkies. If most people had similar exposure to drugs that worked just like crack or meth, you wouldn't see all of society turn in to 90 lb paranoid tweakers. Most people DON'T have that casual, socially-acceptable exposure though so since so many more meth and crack users had to first be willing to go to those neighborhoods and take drugs with such stigmas, it skews the results and makes them look like their magical addiction-makers when in reality, people can develop unhealthy relationships with just about any drug and just about any drug CAN be used responsibly.

One problem however is that people who CAN'T use any or every drug responsibly use this fact to rationalize and tell themselves that THEY can use that drug responsibly. Approximately 16% of people who try coke will ever meet criteria for addiction but these odds don't mean anything if you become an addict!

Also, I'm not saying EVERYONE who peddles these drugs is scary or violent or anything but it's more common than what you find with your local pot dealer, pill dealer and it's especially different than ordering a drug online or getting them from a physician.

The drugs that leave you fiending for more are pretty hard to use responsibly IMO. Cocaine/ crack is the worst offender in this respect that I have tried, but YMMV.

It's possible to use these drugs responsibly, but the temptation is especially strong to not do so.

I phrased this poorly here - I meant to convey any drug CAN be used in a manner that does not necessarily result in someone becoming addicted. Certain drugs such as methamphetamine can still produce neurotoxicity even in moderate use of recreational doses that don't lead to addiction and thus I would not say they can be used both recreationally and responsibly.

Peg, I think you make a fair point that some drugs produce more temptation to overuse than others but in the same respect, some people are far more prone to being tempted than others.

Great post. Crack is rubbish imo. Far better drugs out there to destroy your life with.

i did crack for awhile and was able to quit, no problems. i also did meth for awhile and quit with minimal problems. both reasons for stopping were loss of connections (thank god) by my doing. i will say that both drugs are easy to overcome if you're smart with it.. but they are even more easy to become addicted to.. but believe me i've seen it take wayyyy more dumb, irresponsible people over people who have their body and mind in mind, that use in moderation.. and it's sad to watch. some people just can't handle the high.

I'm experiencing the same exact question as I continue to delve further into the world of drugs. Is it possible to be a responsible user of methamphetamine/methylaminorex?

I used meth for three months solid. Caught three cases. I would say if you have money then it shouldn't be a problem. The problem for me began when I came down, had no money and had to find a way to get more...

I've smoked crack a couple times but never got any rush just a mild buzz so I don't know if I did it "properly". But amphetamines/meth have always been my thing and can have an extremely strong pull if you are into stimulants. W

With any drug like has already been mentioned, there are so many factors involved in addiction. There is no drug that is guaranteed to create or be immune to addictive behaviour. The addiction has just as much to do with the individual and their environment rather than just the drug itself. But if you find a particular effect that you are drawn to you can easily dive into dependency whether it is a drug, even caffeine, or a behaviour like gambling or sex.

I shouldnt be thinking about things like this right now, but....

God, i just cant believe how GOOD meth feels. Ive never did crack but coke was okay-ish....i didnt like doing it every 10 minutes.

I was spending a lot of money on coke and they said hey, meth....you know lasts longer...you should try it....well okay....and its like hmmmm this isnt bad its actually pretty awesome.....its just gotten SUCH a bad rap look how it is HELPING me my whole house is clean, ive lost weight...this is the best drug ever!

I dont think it has to lead to addiction but i think the majority of regular, frequent meth users will get addicted to it...IMO. Its just that good. I think as long as i could have kept it once in a while...maybe it would have been okay...it was for a long time. And snorting it or putting it in my pop just gave me the effects of cleaning and weight loss...when you start smoking it then it is like....okay i have a new hobby....THIS. LOL

Ive tried to go back to occasional use. Ive tried to go back to recreational use. But i got the meth demon in me now. LOL Every time just takes me right back to Hell.

I've used Meth (as well as opiates) for about 2 years.
I was totally anti-drug,with a totally closed mind until then. (At the ripe old age of 34)
I've used regularly, (opiates several times a week, meth probably about .5-1g a week) while maintaining my job and family/social life without much problems.
Yes, I LOVE the rush from meth, I truly enjoy spending the weekend tweaked out if I can......then I take a few days off and do it again. No one knows unless I tell them though, I am a responsible adult, father and husband. NOTHING like what society says a drug user is or should be.
Some people can do the drugs, some people let the drugs do them....

This is a resurrection of quite an old thread, and the question has been beautifully answered by Sekio, Cane, Pegasus and Legerity. I don't think it needs bringing back, especially as we don't really do long discussion threads here :)

Closed - if anyone has any queries, shoot me a pm.
