Over the past 2 hours I have snorted 40 mg adderall and I just found a 50 mg vyvanse. I have a bit of a tolerance to both but not huge. I also take zoloft and I know the risk of serotonin syndrome but I have never had a problem taking drugs that increase the risk of serotonin syndrome with zoloft such as dxm and tramadol. Should I be okay to take the vyvanse? I am 21 and reasonably healthy /physically fit. No prior heart problems.

It's hard to tell. If your tolerance was high enough I would say go for it. I don't know enough about your tolerance though... and yes the usual warning about combining SSRIs and amphetamines applies.

If you want to be a bit more safe, I would at least wait until the Adderall wears off before taking the Vyvanse.

Eh I'm impatient so I just took it. My tolerance is at a point where 40 mg addie doesn't do much of anything. I get a little bit of a rush/buzz for say 20 mins then it I seem to lose the buzz and even the energy you get from it goes away. But anymore then that I get what I want out of it. I'd say my tolerance is medium if that term applies.
So other than the potential ssri interaction you'd consider it relatively safe?

Amphetamine is pretty safe unless you have a heart condition. (Or decide to combine it with a shit ton of alcohol and go run marathon)

SSRIs and amphetamines are most likely not going to give you serotonin syndrome.
For one, base amphetamine is not very serotonergic at all.

two, Serotonin syndrome is normally the result of a bad drug combination. (MAOI and a serotonin drug.)

Your main concern is that amphetamine has a classic case of causing some pretty nasty anxiety in high doses thanks to its stronger NE release. You'll know when you've taken too much amphetamine. Proceed with caution, but those pharmaceuticals are not really for getting high.

It all depends on your tolerance to amphetamines, how much your are taking, and whether the Adderall is IR or ER. All these can be factors that can influence your experience. Vyvanse is slow to act and is meant to be long-acting. The drug in Vyvanse is basically a dextroamphetamine prodrug, which means that you are essentially taking that same drugs, except Adderall is contains both levoamphetamine (more peripheral action) and dextroamphetamine (more psychological high).

I think you'll be okay due to the fact that you said you have a tolerance, but how fun or how bad the experience will be is all up to how tolerant you are to amphetamines. Although such a dose could be dangerous for someone with no tolerance.

Also taking SSRI's along with drugs that raise your serotonin levels is very risky and can be dangerous. Just because you've been ok a few times that doesn't mean you'll be ok everytime. Be careful!

Amphetamines have been found to exert similar effects on serotonin as on dopamine. So yes, SSRI's plus amphetamines can and do cause serotonin syndrome.

Here is a paper for you that proves it.
