Title says it all, is it possible to graft MJ to a similar plant from its family? Anyone know if it has been done at all? I think MJ is in hops family, maybe its possible to graft with hops. just a thought.

Cheers geo

i read it can be done with cacti. and in japan i herd they grafted a peyote onto the base of a san pedro so that it would grow faster than the peyote. i've also heard its very hard to do outside a lab

Yes you can graft cannabis with humulus. Some studies have shown that hops grafted on marijuana stock does not produce THC.

I read an experiment where cannabis was grafted onto a hops stem in an effort to grow cannabis in a colder climate. I think the experiment failed.

^ I would think a better idea would be to graft an indica or sativa on top of rustica to increase hardiness

No need, the genus Cannabis can interbreed no problem, there have already been ruderalis-indica and sativa hybrids done, 'lowryder' was one of the first, they autoflower according to age rather than light timing, theres a few out there that are said to have potency comparable to some of the indicas and sativas out there, seeds are available already, but on one site I looked on, it mentioned some 50% of them autoflowered for one such ruderalis-x-skunk cross, so obviously not quite perfected yet there.

I was thinking today that one idea of grafting multiple strains is to make a cannabis version of the fruit cocktail tree so you can have a few white widow buds, some nothern lights, and a little bit of train wreck all on the same plant.

haha that would be EPIC

grafting is pretty difficult unless you have a thick stem to work with. but i'd give it a shot if you have the time/resources.

if you can graft a morning glory on to a sweet potato, you should be able to graft an indica onto a ruderalis.

It is highly possible to graft Marijuana and fairly easy to do as well>One of the best reasons to graft is so you can have several strains on the same root system> not to flower out but to cut clones from > this makes it posible to have one {mother} plant with several strains on it> If You are considering grafting several strainsa on one root sustem and flowering it out yes it is possible but You would have to make sure that the root system belonged to the strain with the longest flowering time or it would die off before finishing some of the strains off as the plant dies when it finishes flowering so in order to ensure finishing you would have to know a little about the floqwering periods of all strains you grafted onto the {mother} or single root system so that you could graft onto the strain with the longest flowering period
