Is it possible I'm still sensitized to setraline 2 months after discontinuation?

I ran out of zoloft 2 months ago and haven't had the money to go to the doctors to get any more. Since quitting, I've been very anxious and depressed. I found a tab in one of my drawers 4 hours ago and decided to pop it and see what happened. My well being has increased dramatically in that time period. I also feel like I can actually think clearly. I haven't felt this good since quitting.

It's way different feeling from when I took zoloft the first time. That actually increased my anxiety. Could my receptors still be in an altered state from using zoloft for a 1.5 years? Should I just go to the doctor and get more zoloft?

I've never used zoloft, but have used other drugs in it's class...generally there is a "discontinuation syndrome" aka a cute way of saying withdrawal so people don't freak out, so if you didn't ween down on the dose particularly, perhaps the dose just took some of the "discontinuation" symptoms away? Since I don't know the science behind it, I'm also thinking that your reaction could be placebo.

I've read that serotonin receptor stay in their hypoactive states for possibly months after discontinuation. I wouldn't say it's placebo, I was actually expecting an increase in anxiety similar to my first dose ever. It's made more complicated by the fact that I use low dose dxm daily which has SSRI effects and serotonin releasing properties.

Its not Placebo. When I've come off the Sertraline (Zoloft) within the discontinuation/withdrawal phase (say after 2-3 weeks), taking just one 50mg tablet resets this and brings my mood up by quite a way with a corresponding drop in anxiety.

Personally I think it is just that the dose resets the withdrawal. Zoloft is a strong medication.

Hi clubberdude, welcome to BDD!

SSRI discontinuation syndrome certainly is real - wikipedia article. and taking an SSRI during the phase will mask the symptoms temporarily..

However, this is an old thread. While we would really appreciate your input on current threads, it is best not to bump old threads as the OP is likely not going to check the answer, and we try to keep BDD running as smoothly and streamlined as possible (see "state of BDD" sticky in pink at the top of the forum, and the BDD guidelined in my sig :) )

I'm going to close this, but if you have any queries feel free to shoot me a pm :)
