Opioids Is it okay to "cook" morphine sulphate?

I have both extended-release capsules and instant-release tablets. The powder from opening the capsules and crushing the beads dissolves pretty quickly and in a relatively small amount of water, but the tablets when crushed are a lot more powder [despite being 1/3 the dose] that takes ages to dissolve and is still kinda resistant to it.
I decided to "cook" the tablet-powder [like, on a spoon, over a flame] and it dissolved much more quickly and more successfully.
Is this fine to do, or will the heating destroy some of the drug?

I don't think either.

When I was into it, the best was crush the beads into powder, boil some water first then when it bubbles dump the powder in the water and stir. Instead of warming the water with powder in there already. Depends what do you wanna do with it too

Boiling water will not decompose morphine sulfate. In fact, it MAY be the case that what the beads contain is anhydrous morphine sulfate. Get it wet and you have morphine sulfate pentahydrate.

But have you considered other parentheral routes as pills and pins do not mix well.

I know it's a bit creepy but to paraphrase Trainspotting 'morphine suppositories, ideal for your needs'.

But really, the colon bypasses the liver so you get almost the same bioavailability and I'm told the onset is QUICK. I mean like using the pin; a rush.

If you must, be aware that patents exist that just describe adding a pH buffer to the solution. I forget the exact values but it was something like 119mg/ml to about 176mg/ml.

I usually plug it, yeah.
I guess I have my own kinda "poor-mans speedball". I do a Coffee enema. I make about a liter [5 cups] of strong coffee and then boil it down to remove ~70% of the water [I'm not treating constipation so smaller the volume of fluid the better]. Rectal absorption of Caffeine is only about 30% that of oral absorption, but that means I'm still getting a good 300mg and it hits much harder and faster rectally.
I hold it in about 20-30 mins for max caffeine absorption and do get a very noticeable rush. Weirdly, although I generally lie down on my left side during this, I CAN just walk around and go about my business if I want without anything leaking or having to consciously clench or hold it in*.
Anyway, afterwards I then plug the Morphine, so I can like a Caffeine buzz and a Morphine high [and rectal b/a of Morphine is roughly twice that of oral b/a].
It definitely isn't the same as IV, but it's better than oral and kicks in in about 5 mins rather than like 30.

*I've actually forgotten before and realized like a few hours later. But then when I went to evacuate it, nothing came out? I guess your body will just absorb all the liquid eventually? :/

Yeah of course it's ok to cook your morphine.

I would suggest baking it into little fairy cakes with pink icing. Maybe some sprinkles on top.

Keep one for me 😃

cooking it will cause more of the excipients of the pill to suspend into the solution making it a worse thing to inject (micron filter should address this)

You are correct about the former, but depending on the formulation, there may be excipients that are soluble. Things not toxic in oral formulations as they can't leave the gut, but may not be too healthy if they end up in a pin.

Obviously I have no idea what excipients are in any specific medication, but things that modify how the beads dissolve, things that stablize the beads themselves and so on.

As I mentioned, if there is so much MS that it won't all dissolve, adding a pH buffer can increase that solubility by quite a lot - and I assume those were intended for M intended to be consumed as a solution.

But all oral formulations carry extra risks as they are... well, oral fomulations.
