Is it me or does Ritalin just suck?

I've tried everything... smoking, snorting, plugging, eating, and nothing gets me "high." In fact, I've taken what I think are sizable doses 40+mg for all methods to no avail. Only light euphoria for a few minutes MAYBE.

Is this normal, does my ADHD have anything to do with it, or am I just gonna give myself a heart attack trying to chase something that in the end is wack anyways?

Though its not universal nor particularly common, some people with ADHD don't experience euphoria from stimulants prescribed for the aforementioned purpose. You probably won't give yourself a heart attack, but paranoia/anxiety are possible, and its certainly not good for the heart nor the brain to take large amounts.

Many would say that you should consider yourself lucky.

If its anything like adderall, then I feel you.......I hate adderall & don't see what all the hype is about.......but then again, you have ADHD so that's definitely not gonna work on you. Its gonna do the opposite & calm you down, no?

yeah like every drug, some people hate it, some people love it and all, no need to do it if you don't like it. i like it tbh, but i prefer coke.

also, tbh 40mg is a small dose in my book (like the lightest recreational dose i'd do)... if you're up for a last test i'd say snort 60mg. if that doesn't get you jittery and a bit euphoric then yeah, forget it...

Ritalin is like a dirty cocaine high to me. When I was prescribed it I would end up booting all 90 20 mg IR pills in a few days. I would feel disgusting and like there was electricity running through my joints. Def not a good time looking back. Not to mention the serious health risks involved.

I like it better than adderall but it's not close to being as good as cocaine. I was just put on 300mg/month and I blew through the whole script in one sitting...sucked.

I do the same thing and blow through 120 20 mg Ritalin in less than a week. Hence why I don't get it anymore.

Mentyhlphenidate is by far inferior to amphetamines in every way shape and form, especially d,l-methylphenidate (Ritalin) It's like comparing caffeine to MDMA; that's how big the gap is.

I'm not a methylphenidate/ethylphenidate fan myself. The stuff never got me high and in any dose above the therapeutic dose for ADD, I get intense anxiety. It *does* work for motivation, paying attention and staying awake.

Except that methylphenidate is relatively non-neurotoxic. It may even be neuro-protective. It typically has no crash the next day (provided you sleep off the comedown) unless very heavily abused. Ritalin has also been shown to mitigate neurotoxicity from methamphetamine.

I wouldn't compare methylphenidate or ethylphenidate to cocaine. They might have a similar mechanism of action but cocaine is gentler and way more euphoric. Cocaine's recreational potential far exceeds that of Ritalin and Adderall. Amphetamine was recreational a few times but the euphoria quickly subsides. I find that my Ritalin/Adderall tolerance never goes down to the point where either becomes euphoric anymore, even years later. This could be subjective.

< Implying I didn't know this already. Either way why's this relevant?

DRI's are generally known to be neuro-protective to some degree, but did you know that methylphenidate is more cardiotoxic? Not to mention lower/theraputic dosages of amphetamines are not neurotoxic anyways.

Why did you even bring this up anyways? I was reffering to the recreational potential of the two; MPH is a joke in comparison to amphetamines, at least for most people.

Cocaine's recreational potential far exceeds that of Ritalin and Adderall.

d-threo methylphenidate can also be more recreational than cocaine to many since their actions are comparable and not to mention the duration of d-MPH is longer. Amphetamines vs cocaine; amphetamines still take the cake 9/10 times. There's a poll on these forums that will provide evidence to this as well. It is concluded that releasing agents are generally more euphoric than re-uptake inhibitors. However, few do respond better to DRI's.

Most people aren't crazy about methylphenidate. I, actually, do really like it, and at doses not yet exceeding 20 mg via insufflation; I refuse to take it, orally, which is weird because I almost always go for the oral route of administration for other drugs, due to generally good bioavailability, but I know I get more out of insufflation, and I enjoy the speed at which this particular euphoria hits when insufflating it. I have had ample experience with amphetamines, and can definitely understand why someone would prefer an amphetamine over methylphenidate for a good deal of reasons, but, at least for me, methylphenidate has a special place in my heart. Amphetamine euphoria is quite different than methylphenidate euphoria, in my opinion, so I certainly appreciate both. But, if you are not experiencing any notable euphoria at doses of up to 40 mg, especially taken via insufflation and rectally, I wouldn't go on trying to chase the high you never really had. Some people straight out dislike methylphenidate's effects; even if you aren't one of those people, you don't sound like the fairly rare ones like me who can get very excited over some methylphenidate, so again, don't go on upping the dose - it won't lead to anything good, I can say almost certainly. Is it your ADHD? No. Stimulants don't somehow act differently so as not to produce euphoriant effects for those with ADHD - they can help the symptoms of ADHD, but the effects are not dependent on that diagnosis, however different PEOPLE can and do have different SUBJECTIVE EXPERIENCES with the same drug at the same dose. So, it is not just you, but methylphenidate doesn't suck for everyone.

I got a nice high of a concerta 36, the euphoria lasted a good 1-2 hours.
-As a note I have little to no experience.

Ritalin's a mild drug. I've only done it once. I did 5 tabs(don't know the mg's), and found that I needed more. Then I started to drink, and everything came together a bit better.
