no headaches

I am not a person who drinks a lot of coffee or tea but usually I will have a cup of coffee in the morning daily, or sometimes green tea instead or in the afternoon. I do not have a large tolerance to caffeine compared to when I used to have at least 2 cups of coffee a day and 1-2 cups of black or green tea but I cut back. Is it good to ocassionally give yourself a day free from caffeine? I did this today and I did not get any headaches the way some people claim to when they do not drink caffeine.

ppl who get headaches when they don't have coffee, usually drink more than 1 cup a day.

its good not to need caffeine to function in my opinion.

i have a cuppa most days though, and it doesn't seem to affect me negatively. the build in tolerance is mostly minimal and reduces sides such as heart palpitations and other tics for me.

Did you abstain from Coke° too though?

Yeah a day without caffeine may be good, or it may not be influential at all. But to abstain from any drug for periods of time is always good practice.

I don't drink Coke or soda since I used to drink 1-2 cans a day years ago but got a cavity in my tooth. When I take a break from caffeine I do not eat or drink any chocolate as that has caffeine.

Yeah it's important to take a break once in a while.

As ridiculous as this sounds, I didn't realize tea had caffeine until a couple years ago. I work in a very cold office so I decided to drink tea every day. Then I noticed myself getting headaches on the weekends when I didn't have tea. (and then I learned lmao)
I think it's important to take a break, as with anything. Although if you're not feeling any bad side effects when you stop, that's good, but it doesn't mean it's not effecting you, you know?

but it does seem like you have it relatively under control :)

Caffeine is a vitality draining substance. It stresses your kidneys, causes release of stress related hormones from the adrenal glands, changes the body's metabolism over time, is inflammatory, can lead to hypertension, and has an alarming enough half life compared to how frequently and in such quantities it is often consumed. Not to mention, its a leading cause of headaches, muscle stiffness, and general inflammation (the last two preventing your body from repairing itself properly). Caffeine is also addictive.

Its good to skip on caffeine every day. Every time you drink a coffee, you make an additional 7 minutes of the end of your life more feeble and dependent on others. I made that one up. But its totally real!

In any event, most Western adults suffer from chronic adrenal fatigue without even knowing it. Adrenal fatigue takes 6-12 months to alleviate (via absence of caffeine, all stimulants, and avoiding stress), so its unlikely most working-stiffs will ever know what its like to live without it.

Theres a mega-billion dollar annual industry that wants you to believe coffee is this harmless, benign, and super fun beverage. Its effects are insidious, and youll really notice them once youre too old to do much about it. If you quit caffeine for 6 months, then start again, youre likely to notice its negative effects more easily.

The positive effects are, what, you can work at your slave job faster? You can produce more GDP for your country? You can actually tolerate the grueling lifestyle of office work?

Non caffeinated beverages are for rebels! You dont wanna be a tory, do you?!

It IS true caffeine is worse than most people know and I've been trying to quit for years BUT...there is one way in which it is also very healthy.

Although I can't find a link to the study now a recent study showed that people who drink between 1--5 cups of coffee a day (6 ounce cups) significantly reduce their chances of getting heart disease OVER those who do not drink any caffeine at all.

On the contrary, it also says that people who drink MORE than 5 cups of coffee a day (Like ME unfortunately) or somewhat more likely to get heart disease.

That's just one more reason I want to cut down.

BUT if I could get my usage to no more than 4 cups a day...preferably closer to 1 or 2...I would be fine with that and I SERIOUSLY doubt that having 2 or fewer cups of coffee a day has that many of the negative side effects you mention.

IT is really people like me who drink between like 5 and 8 cups a day (I know it's OBSCENE) who risk most of these things.

There's no substance in my life I have EVER had a harder time quitting or moderating with than caffeine.

If I had my way I'd cut down to just one cup a day because everyone wants a little help waking up first thing in the morning, but then that would be it.

I'm NOT going to give up on it, someday I WILL get down to no more than 4 cups a day.

Do you happen to know any good way to cut down or quit that is more effective than just using pure will power???

I don't know why but I figure there MUST be some underlying physical and/or psychological reason that I can't cut down, but I just can't figure out what it is.

I think I have to someone find a way to attack THE ROOT of the problem, but I don't know what the root is...

Citing things is a meaningless and empty ritual when youre discussing concepts that are outside the framework which requires citations. You can choose to ignore me instead :). I just did a quick google search, and found 2 blogposts describing two completely different mechanisms for how "caffeine works in the body." Both were woefully incomplete, and also maintained a tone which implies lack of compound damage to the body. I could also put random links in here agreeing with me, but it would be pretty pointless anyway. Im not saying Im against quoting sources, but I am against blindly following rituals and deceiving myself into agreeing with fundamentalists (tossing around links to "studies" is no different than quoting bible verses, imo).

No "citation" is going to demonstrate a quantifiable loss of vitality! You just gotta get onboard with a holistic lifestyle and feel it for yourself. Its a very tune in, turn on, and drop out sort of thing.

Or just take mind and physiology altering drugs every day lol.

Anyways, mint tea is one of my favorite stimulating beverages. Rebooting with a solid detox helps too. Tapering off helps, as with most drugs. Slowly switching over to caffeinated teas, until you can switch to non caffeinated teas helps too.

Im also not a fan of raw cacao as a frequent dietary additive for the same reasons, its stimulants have an extremely long half life, and its often marketed as a "health product". Its a freaking drug with lots of antioxidants and some easily assimilable proteins.

Although I can't find a link to the study now a recent study showed that people who drink between 1--5 cups of coffee a day (6 ounce cups) significantly reduce their chances of getting heart disease OVER those who do not drink any caffeine at all.

sounds suspiciously like some data conjured up by a few corporate entities that need to preserve their gazillion dollar industry ;). im sure the data is real, and im sure the study was "legit" (in that extremely limited, corporate funded, western pseudo-science kind of way). but why use some substance that slowly squeezes the essence of life out of you, for one single beneficial "health" side effect it might have a chance of having? why not just live a healthy lifestyle overall, and ditch coffee?

heroin will likely extend your life by 10 years, as long as you dont overdose and get clean drugs and always use clean needles. its wonderful for your heart and stress levels. stress is one of the biggest killers in the world, and chronic stress kills way more people than dope. that doesnt mean heroin is a healthy choice!!

just choose a health centered framework for life. take care of your heart, and your other organs, with real nourishment.

Yeah, the odd the thing is that I DO want to quit or at least cut down on coffee, but NOT certain other drugs lol.

However, caffeine is one of the very few drugs I use EVERY SINGLE DAY so I have a problem with that too.

From the way you speak about things it sounds like you don't use any recreational substances though, am I right??

I found your discussion of Chi Kung interesting also.

Once I ALMOST got off of it by accidentally drinking decaf for a while but once I realized i went back to regular.

Does the mint tea you use have any caffeine in it?

And didn't you say Rhodiola Rosea helps??

Do you know if you can take that with an SSRI like Lexapro?

I take that daily, even though you sound like someone that would probably lecture me on the side effects of that (I could be wrong) but it helps me.

Thx for offering another perspective rm-rf.

I only started drinking coffee every morning 2 months ago, because my housemates drink it daily. But your posts resonated with me, I used to feel the same way. But caffeine has made it easier to run longer distances. I quit caffeine today, I'll still exercise but I don't need to push my body beyond its limits. I agree that stimulants suck our vitality, and I don't need to take a drug to make me feel productive in a commercialist slave labour society.

I had never thought of quoting studies like referencing the bible! That made me chuckle :)
