Hey,

I just got offered a job position back, I left myself because I have had a serious drink problem for years, I was trying to stop for a long time and have been on clonazepam a few times, I still have 8 tablets here but I know that I will need more to get off this.

I want to do this, I have to do it and being asked back to a job I love ( Volunteer community work ) - I want to make it happen.

I remember my previous withdrawals and they were a nightmare... I ended up in hospital twice, I just want to be safe and I know I can't stop without some kind of benzo

Hopefully there is something I can buy legally.. My previous tablets were from the hospital, I live in a small town and know my doctor very well, too well that I don't want to talk about this with her..

Sorry mate - if your that poorly and you cant go without alcohol -prescription only benzodiazepines are the only real answer, and even most gps wont precribe them indefinitely - most alcohol dependant people will be detoxed at home or in hospital in the uk using almost exclusively reducing doses of chlordiazepoxide or diazepam. If you were given clonazepam as a stopgap, it was probably as a one off, this medicine is only licensed for treating epilepsy in the uk and its down to individual doctors as to whether or not they will prescribe it for anything else - it is rarely given for anxiety or alcohol dependence.

Your doctor is still the first and only option here however - its extremely dangerous to try and stop drinking on your own - make sure you have this under medical control before you even think about trying to take on extra responsibilities. We all love our poisons here and alot of us recieve treatment for our dependence on alcohol or drugs - its easy for these things to get out of control and you really need to address the issue before you can make any futher progress.

In the interests of harm reduction can i suggest that no one brings up the grey market as a solution - theres plenty of threads on here that discuss these chemicals anyway, and look at the problems that even clued up people are having backing out of etiz habits as stocks run dry. The rc scene is no substitute for proper assessment and treatment in the situations.

ps - if you cant talk to your doctor about any aspect of your health because of interpersonal relationships, she is of no further use to you as a doctor, the conflict of interests is directly preventing you from recieving the treatment you need. You cannot treat this on your own with anything you can buy over the counter, and while you can access support from many different agencies in confidence, your gp will be informed about any medical treatment you recieve.

I can sympathise mate - i live in a small village, and i avoided getting help for my heroin addiction for 10 years because a: i didnt want it all over my medical notes and b: because despite my confidence in my doc to maintain confidentially remains, i live in the real world, and i knew it would get out via the gossip of the other practise staff. However, after too much time going round in circles i had to prioritise. So now a load of people i dont care about know im a smackhead. When i look back at the choices ive made and the effect its had on the people in my life, I doubt that most of those cunts will even register.

When I was in treatment all the alchies were given librium to stave off the shakes and other WD effects.

Librium is the standard benzo used for alcohol w/d as far as I'm aware too.

Stee pretty much nailed this one - alcohol w/d are something to be taken seriously and treated under medical supervision. Really not a good idea to start messing with black or grey market benzos unless you want to end up with two addictions and two sets of dangerous w/d to deal with. Given the answer to your question can only be "prescription only - speak to your doctor or addiction specialist" I'm going to go ahead and close this thread because the best advice has already been given and pretty much anything else will either be iffy suggestions for RC benzos or be skirting way to close to sourcing.

Speak to your GP or local addiction service - this is what they are there for and will be able to help in appropriate and safe ways - and the best of luck with it <3
