Is Citalopram worth taking/starting? (again)

About a month ago my doc prescribed me citalopram to treat anxiety and depression, however after the first week and a half i stopped using it. I know you're supposed to wait two full weeks before the side effects start going away but it got very unbearable for me. I would have very intense mood swings going back from happy, to sad, to angry. but mostly really sad, or really angry. I would also clench my jaw excessively which is already a problem because i'm pretty sure i have bruxism (my jaw muscles are always clenching) and really i wasn't seeing a great improvement in anxiety at all over the 12 or so days i was taking it.

my social anxiety was just as bad, and sometimes i'd question whether or not it was making my OCD worse or not. Either way it was no improvement in that department. didn't notice any decrease in my GAD either, so basically all this drug did to me was take away my sex life for 2 weeks and make me get really agitated/anxious/depressed more often than before. I honestly considered throwing them in the toilet but i still have them sitting on my desk.

Question is - as things are getting more stressful i'm feeling more anxious/depressed than i did a month ago, and i'm starting to get desperate for some sort of relief. I'm considering taking the citalopram again, but scared of the side effects happening again.

I got a referral to a psychiatrist when he prescribed the citalopram (he said it would be helpful in the meantime until i saw a specialist) but unfortunately my appointment still wont happen until APRIL. That's a long time to wait when i need immediate help.

any suggestions/advice? I hope this is the right forum.

(oh and i haven't been diagnosed or anything - but im 99% sure i'm bi-polar)

first step is talk to your p-doc openly and honestly. its rare that they nail the right combination of your meds the very first go round. for me escitprolam is awesome. takes the daytime anxiety and depression away. no side effect, plus i've got k-pins just in case.

gotta talk to your doc.

good luck
