I am thinking about using 5-htp for long term regular use as I often have a lot of issues feeling down and unmotivated but just wondering if I should worry about addiction or dependence issues? And does anyone have any suggestions on using it? Should I take breaks? I'm thinking to take 200mg every other day or every day at important times.

Also I'm quite a big drinker on the weekends, does that affect 5-htp at all?

Thanks for any advice.

The answer to your topic is no. It's an amino acid. It's decarboxylated to serotonin and excess gets metabolized by vitamin B6.

It makes me tired and gives me weird dreams. I don't take it because I don't like the slightest possibility of messing with 5HT2B receptors which regulate cellular growth in ventricular parts of the heart.

What do you mean by messing 5HT2B receptors? I never heard of that? :/
