In the corner catching my breath
I watched her dance,
eyes closed, bouncing, shuffling,
floating on a melodic breeze,
irrepressible smile, complete rapture.
Would anyone repress that beautiful smile?
Suffer shall any who tries!
The music changed and with it her movements,
her eyes opened, her gaze soon found mine,
the wonderous smile still on her lips.
My lips smiled back in response,
Could they have done anything less?
Enthusiastic dancing, infectious grin,
what point in resisting?
And so before I could think
there was no choice but to join her,
I found myself dancing next to her,
gazing down on her beautiful form,
as she grinned back up at me,
pure joy in her face.
Regardless of longings denied,
regardless of desires unfilfulled,
in these moments all is worthwhile,
and in the memory of these moments,
I couldn't be more content.
Happy that she is my friend.

I know this sentiment. It's probably the hardest thing to work out, to make peace with one's self over. But when you do, perhaps you know you've done the right thing.
Great poetry captures emotions within words and this does just that. :)
