Is it normal to be in pain when taking iodine supplements, anyone know?

My lower back was killing me, so bad i stopped taking the Iodine i was dosing daily

such bad pain, all in my belly and wrapped around into my lower back:(

Um. Ok I don't mean to be harsh here but you HAVE to research stuff before you just start taking it. If you had researched you would know that iodine therapy puts your body into a very heavy state of detox (different depending on the person and how much halogens such as bromide and fluoride you've been exposed to in your lifetime thus far). There are ways to remedy the severity of the detox; you have to be doing salt pushes and make sure you are getting all the companion nutrients to aid your body in using the iodine and getting rid of the bad halogens. If your lower back hurts its like the bromide built up in your kidneys. You HAVE to detox this using salt pushes. It's VERY important!

Please go to the iodine forum on curezone and do some reading. A lot of reading. This stuff is very important and you won't likely find many answers here as this is a more mainstream forum and not a lot of people know about iodine therapy.

www.curezone.com

Find the "iodine supplmentation" forum and do some searches and reading in there. Searching "salt push" and "companion nutrients" would probably be a good way to start. But you need to salt push NOW so here is the recipe:

1/2 tsp sea salt dissolved in a small cup of water, followed by 16 oz of fresh (clean, preferrably distilled but definitely fluoride free) water.

Wait 30 mins. Repeat.

Keep waiting 30 mins and repeating however long it takes for some relief. Salt, in this particular dosage, is a necessary factor in helping your kidneys filter the bromides that are coming from other part of your body and send them out with your piss. It sounds like right now they are backed up and that is nothing good.

I hope that helps! Don't let this turn you off of iodine. It's NOT the iodine, its the fact that iodine is causing a massive release of poisonous bromin(d)es.

I was under the impression iodine would help me with fatigue, detoxing bromine was not something I was even aware of.

I'm don't see how I would have lots of bromine to detox, I drink clean tap water :\

No no no... Bromide detox is a HUGE part of iodine therapy. Yes, over time, iodine will do AMAZING things for you but you have to detox first. Halogens compete for the same receptors in your body and the average person's body is filled with bromides. It doesn't matter if you drink "clean tap water" (do you mean you distill it? Because I don't think there is such a thing as clean tap water)

Firstly, I see you are in California and almost all the water there is fluoridated. So unless you are distilling (NOT Brita or Pur water filters as those don't remove fluoride, only distillation and reverse osmosis filters do) all your water you aren't getting clean water. Doing iodine therapy while ingesting fluoridated water will give you horrible detox. It's like trying to mop a floor clean while there is someone standing there dumping dirty water on it. It's not going to happen.

Second-the bromide. Bromide is in the air we breathe (pollution) it's in flame retardant stuff that they put on couches, carpets, etc. It's in soda. It's in bread. It's in ANY non organic fruit because the pesticides they use contain bromide and washing doesn't always help if it is soft fruit like berries. I recommend eating only organic fruits and vegetables if you are going to do iodine therapy. For the same reason as the fluoride water above.

It took a long time and a lot of detox (for me) to start finally getting clean of the toxic halogens and getting the full benefits from iodine. Iodine is in the top list of things I've done in trying to help myself (I used to be very ill and came close to losing my life when I was younger, doctors were no help so I tried EVERYTHING) that ended up changing my life. It's definitely the most powerful supplement I've ever taken, and I feel so strongly about it that I want to get the chemical structure tattood on my body...it's amazing. But you can't just start taking stuff without knowing what you're doing. I researched iodine therapy for a long long time before I ever bought a bottle and went for it. There is a lot to know.

What are the dangers of iodine supplementation, assuming all the necessary precautions are taken?

There aren't any dangers, really. The only known deaths from iodine came from people taking massive, massive amounts, wayyyy over any dose recommended for this therapy protocol.

What you should be asking are the dangers of allowing toxic halogens to remain in your system.

"The Bromide Dominance Theory

A bromide dominance condition may develop when bromide, acquired
through environmental, occupational, iatrogenic or dietary exposure, causes
bromide levels in the body to rise high enough to inhibit Iodine enzyme
metabolism.

Iodine supplementation alters the competitive bromide-iodine relationship
causing bromide excretion. Thus, bromide dominance is diminished and
proper iodine enzyme metabolism may be restored.

--- In the toxic 21st Century, the question must be raised, would we even have
such a severe iodine deficiency without bromide dominance?

Where Does Bromide Dominance Come From?

Bromide is an insidious, additive used in many common products, and as a
pesticide. Because of the sheer amount of bromide-supplemented products,
exposure to this man-made additive has caused a depletion of iodine in human
populations. Studies in lab animals provide alarming evidence that even small
amounts of bromide exposure can be toxic. (1)

What products contain bromide?

Currently, bromide is found in pesticides (methyl bromide), some bread
products (potassium bromate), brominated vegetable oil that may be added to
citrus-flavored drinks, hot tub cleansers, certain asthma inhalers and
prescription drugs, plastic products, some personal care products, some
fabric dyes, and as a fire retardant in mattresses, carpeting, etc. (See
expanded Products' Discussion Below.)

Effects of Bromide on the Organs

Iodine depletion weakens the thyroid and other organs. (2)(3)(4)(5)(6) In
individuals where the bromide-iodine ratio is less, bromide may not be
problematic.

Thyroid

Elevated bromide levels have been implicated in every thyroid disease, from
simple hypothyroidism to auto-immune diseases to thyroid cancer.
Malenchenko found bromide levels 50 times higher in thyroid cancer than
normal thyroid tissue. (7)

Rats fed even the minimal amount of bromine expected to be encountered in
the environment underwent goiter-like changes (8), an arguable case of
bromide dominance. In the FIRE project, exposing rats to the brominated flame
retardant compound, bromocyclodecane, showed consistent effects on the
thyroid hormone axis, including decreased T4. Thyroid gland cells have
increased size and larger nuclei, indicating increased synthetic activity. (9)

With enhanced intake of bromide, fully one-third of the iodine content in the
thyroids of rats was replaced by bromide. (10)

Skin

Skin biopsied from a woman who had been on bromide-containing sedatives
for nearly four years found increased bromide in normal skin and three
times that in an affected skin lesion. (11)

An infant administered a syrup containing sodium bromide developed
vegetative lesions on the face and scalp. (12)

Technicians exposed to brominated compounds for prolonged periods
developed multiple cherry angiomas on the trunk and extremities. (12)

Mental

The psychiatry literature abounds with cases of elevated bromide levels being
implicated in mental conditions from depression to schizophrenia. (14)(15)(16)
As Guy Abraham, MD, asks, "How many people with misdiagnosed bromism
are currently treated with psychiatric drugs?"(17)

Hearing

Potassium bromate, a bread additive, is known to cause renal damage and
permanent deafness in animals and man. (18) In the FIRE project, the most
relevant effect on exposing rats to 28 days to the brominated flame
retardant compound, tetrabromobisphenol-A, was hearing. Specifically, the
lower frequency range was affected . (19)

Kidneys

The ability of bromate to cause cancer, especially kidney cancer, is a
significant health concern. (20) The gene expression in kidneys in rats given
a high dose 100-week potassium bromate in their drinking water showed
marked gene expression difference from the lower non-cancer dose. The
high dose kidney gene expression resembled an adenoma-like expression
pattern. (21)

BROMIDE IN PRODUCTS
.
BREAD

Potassium bromate as an additive to most commercial bread and baked
goods probably provides the most egregious contribution to bromide overload
in Western cultures.

Bromated flour is product "enriched" with potassium bromate. Some
commercial bakers claim they use bromated flour because it yields
dependable results, and it makes more elastic dough which can stand up to
bread hooks and other commercial baking tools. (22) However, Pepperidge
Farm manages to use only unbromated flour with excellent results.

NOTE ON BANNING POTASSIUM BROMATE IN BREAD:

UK banned bromate in bread in 1990.
1994Canada banned bromate in bread in 1994. (23)
Proposal P230 in Australia: Food Regulation Ministerial Council (FSANZ) still
has not finalized its July 2007 proposal to mandate iodized salt in breads,
breakfast cereals and biscuits.

Back in 1999, the Center for Science in the Public Interest petitioned the FDA
to prohibit the use of potassium bromate, charging that the FDA has known
for years that bromate causes cancer in lab animals, but has failed to ban it.
(24) As of September 2007, the US FDA responded to Breast Cancer Choices
inquir with the statement, " Potassium Bromate is still listed as a safe
additive."

WATER
When drinking water containing bromide is exposed to ozone, bromate ion, a
powerful oxidizing agent, is formed. Two significant recalls of drinking water
involving bromate have occurred: Wegmann's Food You Feel Good About
Spring Water Recall in 2006, and Coca-Cola's Dasani in 2004. (25)

TOOTHPASTE, MOUTHWASH AND GARGLES
Potassium bromate is an antiseptic and astringent in toothpaste, mouth and
gargles. Very toxic if taken internally. May cause bleeding and inflammation
of gums in toothpaste. (26)

BROMIDE IN FLAME RETARDANTS
Flame retardants reduce the flammability of a wide variety of commercial
and household products. Some brominated home retardants migrate from
the products in which they are used and are entering the environment and
people. (27)

PERSONAL PRODUCTS AND SOME COSMETICS
Sodium bromate in Products: Permanent Waves, Hair Dyes, Textile Dyes
Sodium bromate is in permanent wave neutralizers, hair dye material, and
the textile dyeing process. (28) Benzalkonium is used as a preservative in
some cosmetics. (29)"

Awesome information : )

The reason I ask is I drink a boat load of tap water a day, and the fluoride content bothers me.

What have you found to be the cheapest way to get clean water?

I've found a few "under the sink" filters that claim to take out the fluoride, but they are a little bit expensive (although not as expensive as I though they'd be).

WATER DISTILLER! WATER DISTILLER! WATER DISTILLER!

:D

A water distiller was honestly the best purchase Ive ever made in my life. It makes a gallon of water at a time, I only have to run it a couple of times a day and I have more than enough water for drinking and cooking with. It has more than paid for itself over the years! Just do a google search for water distillers and you should be able to find some really cheap. Stay away from the ones that "put minerals back in the water" or anything fancy like that. You don't want that. You don't NEED that. Pure water is what you're after. The body can't even fully absorb minerals from water, it needs to come from an organic source like vegetables, and don't listen to all the naysaying out there about how water distillers will kill you, distilled water causes your body to die, blah blah. It's all total bullshit. My grandparents are in their ninties and in excellent health for their age and have been drinking all distilled water for 30 something years now. I noticed a huge and immediate change in all aspects of my health when going from the *ugh* fluoridated tap water to distilled.

In this day and age when our water supply is unfortunately being poisoned by the people in charge, taking care of ourselves is the only way.

Mynameisnotdeja - how long does detox last? How many days do you do the salt pushes and when will I start to feel good?

I also wonder... Salt kills my stomach anymore, but I am okay with sodium bicarbonate. Wonder if that would work. I supplement iodine by skin because I have allergies to the additives in supplements.

MynameisnotDeja has not been around for a while now unfortunately... I do always wonder when I see his/her(?) posts if their alive or what ever.

Alot of good information in this thread I never was aware of. noted haha

Hi, I am new here and was wondering if anyone has experienced bad insomnia with the iodine protocol. I'm using 50mg a day, but for only a week and an half. I stopped for today due to severe sleep deprivation. I have sleeping issues as it is and this is making it worse. I know I am toxic due to meds I had used in the past and the obvious unknown bromated products used in the past. Any suggestions would be grateful to me. I use magnesium, selenium and a B-complex. Waiting to get some vitamin C. I have the B2 and B3 now to use. Feeling very depressed, tired and with aches and stiffness, which is usual for me. Thanks for any response. Also concerned about estrogen dominance and was told iodine would help.

I tried iodine. Unfortunately for me, anytime I've tried to detox with iodine or green superfood powders i end up with a horrible rash. I'm sure it is an allergic reaction to the things coming out of my body, but it has been too bad for me to tough out. The first time I had to go to the doctor and get a cortisone shot.

No, it's your body reacting to the shit you start taking when "detoxing".

Try detoxing your liver first if you haven't done that. Your liver is the organ responsible for flushing out all your toxins. If there is a build up of toxins in your liver, that may be why you're having these reactions.

^ how do people even come up with these ideas? The person is OK, the person takes "iodine"/whatever magic supplement -> the person feels shit. It's almost 100% likely that they react badly to whatever shit they take in order to "detox".

How does one "detox" a liver anyway?

"Removing toxins" from one's body with iodide supplements belongs to the same category with colon cleansing as a procedure that doesn't have any mainstream scientific evidence behind it. I don't know how much actual iodide there is in those supplements, but it's probably not a dangerous amount or they would have already been taken off the market. You can believe in those alternative treatments if you want though, it's none of my business. Just remember that too much iodine can be dangerous if taken by pregnant women.

There was some talk about bromide toxicity in the older messages... If someone has too much bromide ions in their body, the normal medical treatment is to administer an excess of sodium chloride (table salt), not iodides. I once tried ingesting a gram or two of potassium bromide when I was about 18 years old, to test whether it's really a sedative as it's told to be. It didn't really cause any obvious sedation like benzos do, but no side effects either. Bromine toxicity usually happens when someone ingests bromine compounds for an extended period of time, and it's quite rare nowadays.

You can believe in those alternative treatments if you want though, it's none of my business.

I feel more strongly about this subject. People subject themselves to so much misinformation, mainly propagated by snake oil salesmen and people who genuinely believe in this pseudoscientific crap. It would be all fine and dandy if gullible people didn't suffer as a result. And it's not a joke in my opinion. I do believe it's a pretty serious public health problem.

LoL yeah pseudoscientific crap that's been used successfully to treat fibrocystic disease of the breasts.

Iodine supplementation isn't really necessary if you consume a modern diet. There are some specific uses for it but I won't mention them here.

As for liver detoxes... they are mostly non-sense. The liver is a clean organ. What it needs are micro and macro nutrients so that it can perform its functions.

Most detox kits on the market are full of laxatives, and they come with huge leaflets about the diet you have to go on in order to cleanse. What this should tell anyone with common sense is that eating well will bolster the liver. Save yourself the money and time.

If your liver has no pathology happening (like cysts, enlargement, cirrhosis, etc.) then you don't need to do anything other than eat well.
