I rarely go to the theater but I can't wait for this to come out on dvd. Morgan Freeman is the man.

edit: wow just heard about him and his step grand daughter.. ewwwwwwww

film: Invictus

i found this movie to drag, drag, drag. just a bit of the fat could have been trimmed to make it more enjoyable.
i enjoyed that unlike many other true story sports movies i did not already know the outcome so i got to participate in the suspense.

freeman's accent sounds contrived in the trailer. how is it in the movie?

Haha.... that's pretty good.

But where's Easy Reader? On the 70's PBS show The Electric Company, Freeman would dress up in bell-bottoms and tea shades and just strut around NYC reading shit.

Classic! :D

invictus was disappointing to me. the nice story is badly structured, boring, and the score was terrible. the sport choreography is also poorly developed so it seems just like a random highlight reel.

I'm assuming there is no mention of "Suzie the waitress" or the anti semetic jibs Joel Stansky received at the post match dinner.

Until such time I'll treat this as a work of fiction. :|

Yeah, pretty much my thoughts. It was really bad.

I wasn't really expecting much, but I'm afraid it genuinely came across as horribly amateurish. The story premise was thin, belaboured Mandela's deity status and forced the production of a script that was dull, in places repetitious, and that elicited some very stale (and even clichéd) performances from the supporting cast.

The two security teams were predictable and tiresome to watch, with both performance and metaphor defeated by a lack of subtlety. The climactic scenes were reminiscent of a Michael Bay disaster movie, where a previously divided world emerges from a bunker holding hands when, in reality, they still hate eachother's racist guts.

The post-production editing made a number of mistakes that added to the calamity. The decision not to cut 20% of the run time was the first. Many scenes were simply duplicates of an earlier scene, essentially making the same stupid point. The decision to employ a graduate visual effects artist was the second. The use of blurred slow-motion in certain scenes looked like it had been done in Windows Movie Maker, as did the ridiculous super-imposed 'flashbacks' of Mandela, experienced by François Pienaar, as he toured the prison.

It was just awful.

I can see why Freeman took the opportunity, but Damon should have passed on what was a very flimsy sale.

belaboured Mandela's deity status

I think this is one of the few times I've seen him shown in less than god-like ways. At least they showed him to have a piss-poor home life & have difficulties, rather than just his public image.

Personally I quite liked the movie. Admittedly I know hardly anything about rugby, but I thought the games looked good. Damon was solid, Freeman was good, although his accent was a bit mix & match.

as did the ridiculous super-imposed 'flashbacks' of Mandela, experienced by François Pienaar, as he toured the prison.

That was awful.

i particularly hated eastwoods choice of score in both this and that vietnam vet neighbour vigelante thingy (forgot what it's called).

I dislike this movie because Invictus is now tied with the movie forever. Most people will never even read the poem.

Ha, yeah, the music was totally inappropriate in places. I think it's the scene where Mandela visits them via helicopter, music just pops out of nowhere and sounds like a complete mess.

The other film is Gran Torino (which I still haven't seen).
