"Straw like hair" means it was dry, as in dead on the stalk?

 

Yeah, I think so. Usually really straight too, and sticking out at angles rather than following the contour of the skull. Sort of like when I try to straighten my hair.

 

funny, more like soft blades of wheat growing in a late summer field, and yes, wheat is a grass which is straw.
