Interstellar

You need to download a 50 gig file to get anywhere near the same quality as the Disk, the reality is if no one paid for movies then we wouldn't have them would we. Never seen something so childish in my life, pirating isn't free either. Good download mediums require you pay...Private torrents you would need a seed box, Usenet....you have to pay.

Video bit rate is no where near the same on the scene rips, especially when it comes to the Star Wars trilogy.

Infact the groups that rip these movies for you, all tell you to pay for your shite.

Wow calm down there Sir ;) I'm not going to get into what services may or may not be available for obtaining copyrighted material but on the basis that not all shared material is copyrighted i.e. these sharing protocols are used to share legally also I see no harm in discussing what is quite an interesting subject.

50Gb is about the capacity of a BlueRay Disc most include a shed load of stuff beyond the movie with a single audio. It's digital content, you can either copy the image bit for bit including the empty space in which case you would get a 50GB file,

or you could copy the actual data, much like you could *.ISO a disk, then you'd just have an exact copy of the disk without a whole heap of empty data

or you could strip out the unrequired audio tracks, sub-titles and other extra content, then make a bit for bit copy.

In all those cases you'd have largely the same digital video and audio data as the original.

Or you could use a number of compression techniques to reduce the size of the content, much like ripping a CD to MP3 or converting a *.BMP image to *.JPG, in this case loss of something is highly likely, although not inevitable depending on how it's done and much like audio whether you can tell the difference is going to depend on how you view it. If you have a high end setup you might well be able to tell but like comparing FLAC to MP3 on your mobile it doesn't always matter.

As for copying music or video being a huge threat to the industry history tells a different story, the release of the compact cassette or VHS video was accompanied by the same cries from the industry and you've been able to obtain MP3s from the net for almost as long as its existed yet the profits of the big film makers and music production companies grows and grows and the amount of content along with it.

As is already happening the industries are slowly accepting that people don't want to wait for the content, Cinema to DVD time is reducing and music is becoming more widely streamed with file download rather than CD being almost the norm (only today another streaming service was announced) The industries will evolve over time to fulfill peoples needs providing a better service in both quality, price and availability than the illegal trade and that trade will dwindle.

I see parallels with drug supply, few people buy counterfeit alcohol or tobacco but everyone who smokes weed (for example) in this country is potentially funding people trafficking and a whole raft of other unacceptable criminal activity, let's not get all moral about taping the Top 40 off Radio 1

Yea I don't agree in pirating anyway I thought it was against the BLUA for us to discuss possibly illegal activity?

Evey

what like taking drugs ??? you do love to jump on the band wagon when you think you have an opportunity to have a pop at me

BLUA here for anyone to reference

If you're not PMing other's complaining about me your posting little digs, I shan't PM you because apparently I'm constantly doing so :?

Not quite, Evey... You may have noticed that every now and then people occasionally talk about using illegal substances in quite a few areas of this site. Shocking but true 8o

That section of the BLUA is mostly intended to deal with people talking about ongoing criminal activity - somebody talking about the banknote printing press in their cellar or thei weed growing operation in their loft and so forth.

As have many of us - but a smackhead that STILL has nearly a grands worth of audio/visual equipment? I say you ain't been trying hard enough... :)

Been down that road, when uve sold an xbox 360, 2 technics 1200s, 2 pioneer cdj 800's and their DJM 750k mixer and ur still left with no gear or money - time to get a script or do a rattle. I dont spend money on much else tho, maybe 60-70% drugs and 30% bluerays.

And when it comes to rips, although possible its a real pain only to end up with a ridiculously sized file. With 2nd hand bd's available for as little as £2 i personally dont think its worth the hassle.

Plus, i love my directors commentarys and i have a cool looking shelf unit full of films.

Lol.

Stee its ace you have morals. Its shows that people aint always right in negative views of drug takers.

Evey

Lol cheers Evey but im still devoid of a moral compass. Because i spend some of my money on my filmbuffery as a pose to just spending it all on drugs just makes me as greedy and selfish as any common street thief stealing for their habits.

Its Friday, i have the Interstellar bd and a bag of weed by the tv ready to go

Ill give myself 6 hours to wake up properly (wake and bakes are nice sometimes but i generally dont like smoking weed when ive just woken up - it either wears off too quickly or I just fall back to sleep)

Have a happy 7.1 DTS 1080p Easter all. Three hours of ear splitting organ music from Hans Zimmer. Cant wait =D

It came, it went, it didnt dissapoint.

As i didnt catch it in IMAX, my only previous viewing was through a crappy, dark, standard muliplex digital projector framed completley in 2.39:1 so i always knew id get more out of it on my home system

Of course, this was the case - the film looked gorgeous, with the same shifting aspect ratios as used in 'The Dark Knight' and 'TDK Rises' (the picture changes from 2.39:1 to 1.78:1 for the IMAX sequences). Sound was as expected -LOUD - never before have i actually felt like i was in a rocket with the room shaking throughout all the powered flight sections. Was suprised to see the soundtrack, while DTS, was only 5.1 in english but as my system only has 6 channels anyway this is of course a moot point. The overall mix, which wasnt that good at the cinema, sounded perfect at home, retaining the sub quaky elements id already heard without drowning out the dialogue.

As for the content, the astrophysics stuff still holds up well, with the 5 dimensional brain bending end making alot more sense than the first time around. Yet it was the family dynamics that really struck a chord this time, adding a real heart to the spectacle, something ididnt allow in on my first viewing.

As for Chris Nolans films in general, i still think that Inception is a purer, more original cinematic experience, but Interstellar has to be the best serious space adventure since Danny Boyles 'Sunshine' (Duncan Jones 'Moon' doesnt really get into space and the superb 'Guardians of the Galaxy' is more fantasy / space opera)

So thats Interstellar done. The next spectacle on my list is ridleys 'Exodus:Gods and Kings' which i bet you cant wait to hear about....¿ :\

Tax is what gets your dustbins collected and your medical bills paid. Deal with it.
And if the rich paid their fair share of taxes, the poor would end up paying a fairer -- i.e., smaller -- share.

I've never begrudged paying a penny of my taxes, but it annoys me to think that I'd have less tax to pay if the likes of Amazon paid their fair share of taxes. They depend on the roads -- which we all pay for -- to deliver their packages; and when their employees get sick, it's the National Health Service that pays for them to get better. And I think that we need to start enforcing already-existing laws properly with a view towards collecting every penny of tax money owed.
