Interesting Resin (pipe scrapings) harm reduction technique

What about dissolving it in an organic solvent, filtering and pulling off the solvent to leave an oil? I mean, it'd still have a lot of toxic stuff, but you could wash it with acidic and basic water (since THC has no amines or carboxylic acids, it won't be extracted), then dissolve in a solvent, dry the solvent with anhydrous MgSO4, NaSO4 or a saturated NaCl solution and then filter and pull off the solvent... hell, pentane or hexane would probably work for thc and might not dissolve a lot of the crap.... hmmm i gotta try that sometime... or you could do a mini version of the butane extraction method to get hash oil from stems and leaves...

Trying to wash with an acidic aqeous solution might help a bit; but the really nasty stuff is like the benzo[a]pyrene and other poly aromatic hydrocarbons...

^true, which would have very similar solubilities to THC... i wonder if there is a way to separate them by their volatilities... what about sublimation?

You're best bet would be column chromatography considering the rather high boiling points of THC and a lot of the PAHs. But really, unless you have a lot of resin, like many grams worth at a minimum, I don't think any purification method is going to be worthwhile considering the losses you're going to incur.
