Interesting opiate article

Thought this was an interesting and very informative article on opiate chemistry, particularly interesting was that it gave the supposed primary metabolic pathways for the opiates. Unfortunatly it appears the naloxone is primarily metabolized (conjugagation...though I am not quite sure what this means...with glucuronic acid) the same way as all our favorite opiates. This means trying to break those injection resistant pills is going to be very difficult.

Glucuronidation basically means that the freebase form of the molecule is bonded with a big-ass molecule of glucuronic acid. Think acid-base reaction: in the end the acid is bonded to an O- on the opioid which used to be an OH. The glucuronic complex makes it easy for the kidneys to filter it out of the bloodstream.
